SonicWALL Adds New Functions, Improved Ease of Use to Security Management Software

Extended Management and UTM Controls, Expanded Compliance Reporting, Increased Speed and Simplicity for Global Management System Users

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 6 -- SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNWL), a leading provider of continuous data protection and network, Web and email security solutions, today announced a major upgrade to its Global Management System software. Version 4.0 of the SonicWALL Global Management System (GMS) provides enhanced management capabilities, more powerful reporting tools, and greater granularity of monitoring services, together with a refreshed Web interface that makes managing SonicWALL networks even simpler.

More than 60,000 SonicWALL appliances in networks of all sizes worldwide are currently managed using GMS. The software allows IT administrators to control thousands of remote SonicWALL security appliances and Unified Threat Management (UTM) services from a single, central location. New features in GMS 4.0 include: the ability to manage SonicWALL SSL-VPN appliances as well IPSec VPN firewalls; a redesigned graphical user-interface that makes navigation simpler and more intuitive; central control of unified threat management signature updates on the network; simplified activation code entry; flexible new options for firmware upgrade scheduling; audio alerts and notification to PDAs and cell phones in the event of system failures.

"In GMS 4.0, the front end user-interface has received both a cosmetic and functional redesign," said Damien Sugden of Bill Express, an online payment company that uses GMS to manage over 4,000 SonicWALL appliances deployed in retail outlets throughout Australia. "Additionally, the reporting back-end has been completely overhauled. The SonicWALL platform has provided our business with valuable tools; from intrusion detection and prevention right through to CPE firewall firmware management. I am excited about the prospects of the new functionality and feature set available in GMS Version 4.0.

"A number of the fundamental features we have been discussing with SonicWALL are in Version 4.0," added Damien Sugden. "We've worked behind the scenes with the SonicWALL engineering to improve GMS. Our shared vision has been to deliver a system that truly realises customer needs."

GMS 4.0 software provides customized, scheduled reports in a variety of exportable formats designed to satisfy the needs of regulatory compliance audits. This latest version of the software provides more detailed, centralized real-time monitoring, and provides new policy and compliance reporting including: executive summary reports with PDF integration; definable templates for regulatory compliance reports; improved speed in generating reports; and detailed logging support.

"With GMS I can look after my business from just about anywhere," said Ean Smythe of Exclamake!, an IT and network security company based in San Luis Obispo, CA. Over the past two years, Smythe has developed a flourishing managed services business, using GMS as for management and monitoring. "Recently I was at a seminar when I received a message from a client saying that their network had slowed down. I logged on to GMS using a public computer, and saw that a security camera was eating up bandwidth and unbalancing the network. I was able to circumvent the camera and get things back to normal within minutes. GMS is a great management tool and it's one of the main reasons that I was first persuaded to pursue becoming a SonicWALL partner."

ViewPoint 4.0

SonicWALL also announced an update to its Web-based reporting tool, ViewPoint 4.0. Its comprehensive reporting capabilities give administrators instant insight into the health of their network including both performance and security. Using both a customizable dashboard and a variety of historical reports, SonicWALL ViewPoint helps organizations of all sizes track network utilization, monitor security activity, and view web usage.
