Honeywell Introduces New Solution to Increase Profitability While Ensuring Safe Production in the Process Industries

PHOENIX, June 16, 2004 -Honeywell (NYSE: HON) introduces an integrated solution that improves safety and operational reliability while increasing profitability by up to $2 million per year for energy, chemical and pulp, paper and printing facilities. Honeywell's operations management solution includes new technology, called Operations Management Pro (OM Pro), and expert services that help companies achieve economic targets while safely and reliably optimizing production. OM Pro is part of a complete portfolio of advanced software applications integrated with Honeywell's Experion(tm) Process Knowledge System (PKS) that unifies people with process, business and asset management to help process manufacturers increase profitability and productivity.

The solutions' advanced tools provide facility workers with early awareness and knowledge to quickly resolve abnormal situations that cause plants and mills to deviate from normal operations. Early alerts and notifications of process disturbances allow plants to safely run closer to economic targets and maximum production because workers can continuously monitor performance in relation to operational constraints.

"Approximately 40 percent of abnormal plant situations are caused by human error," said Paul Butler, Vice President of Technology for Honeywell Process Solutions. "Honeywell's new operations management solution will provide customers with peace of mind in knowing that they are using the most advanced technology to help them make smart decisions and avoid incidents.

OM Pro will ensure that the facilities are operating at settings that are consistent with the desired economic outputs and in compliance with health, safety, environmental and equipment constraints."

Honeywell's project execution services combined with OM Pro offer a solution that improves the effectiveness of workers, especially refinery operators.

Designed for abnormal situation management®, OM Pro includes technology developed through research by the Abnormal Situation Management (ASM®) consortium. Led by Honeywell, the ASM Consortium is a joint research and development group, which includes some of the largest refineries in the world. OM Pro helps workers manage and prevent abnormal situations that can result in poor product quality, schedule delays, equipment damage and other significant losses. An environment for safe, profitable and on-target performance is established when operating limits for plant processes are established, resulting in benefits, which include:

o Improved safety and environmental compliance.
o Increased operational reliability and consistency, leading to fewer incidents and abnormal situations.
o Reduced costs and greater profits, due to overall improved systems management.
o Keener understanding of plant operations and continuous improvement of processes.

Honeywell's Experion PKS integrates an advanced automation platform and advanced software applications to improve business performance and peace of mind. The system captures, channels and manages knowledge to provide everyone throughout a facility with real-time information to make smart decisions and act quickly to prevent and reduce errors that result in abnormal situations.

OM Pro is currently being implemented at several North American locations.
