The Simaris manager software from Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) provices a full range of energy management functions from the incoming supply, through distribution, right up to the loads. The software supplements the existing control systems and can be easily integrated into existing HMI systems in central control rooms. It includes functions for monitoring and measuring demand, as well as a cost center management function, allowing user-friendly monitoring of energy management in industrial plants and utility buildings, and cost-optimized structuring of operations.

The Simaris manager energy management software from Siemens A&D is modular in design and has been programmed in accordance with modern standards such as OPC, SOAP and .NET technology, ensuring simple integration into the HMI systems of central control rooms. Simaris manager continuously acquires all energy-related data using bus-enabled devices with integral metrology such as Sentron circuit-breakers or meters. This significantly increases the consistency and availability of these data. The information is transmitted over an integral communication platform to the central control room where it is made available in the form of text and graphics. Any faults can thus be detected faster and in more detail, then analyzed and thus selectively corrected.

The energy distribution plant can be efficiently managed with the main "operating and monitoring" function of Simaris manager. Prerequisites for the efficient organization of preventive service and maintenance intervals include information about the status and load of switchgear such as voltage, current, and power, as well as signal lists and switching cycle lists. Switching operations can now be handled centrally instead of locally, thus also enhancing safety for personnel.

For industrial and utility buildings, energy costs are agreed in power demand contracts that have to be monitored and complied with. Observing the power demand limit agreed in the contract is easier with Simaris manager's "Load management" function. Continuous monitoring of demand allows a setpoint/actual value comparison to be made every 10 seconds. The power demand limits are complied with by selective switching and controlling of the loads, thus preventing load peaks and penalty payments for contractual violations. The cost center management in the software assigns the automatically recorded demand data according to the originator. Detailed information on incurred costs is therefore quickly available for each cost center.
