Openwave's Network Address Book Makes Convergence Happen for Operators and their Consumers

With Plaxo and Voxmobili, New Offering Allows the Display, Synchronization and Editing of Contact Information From Any Device, Anywhere, Anytime

LOS ANGELES, CTIA IT & Entertainment, Sept. 12 /Openwave Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:OPWV), the leading independent provider of software solutions for the communications and media industries, today announced the availability of the Openwave(R) Network Address Book. Leveraging the reach of Plaxo, creator of the world's first smart address book, and featuring technology by Voxmobili, the leading personal data management and wireless synchronization solution provider, the offering will give carriers a network-based service that provides a rich user experience across devices by synchronizing contact information from myriad sources, allowing access via multiple protocols and access channels, and creating a centralized and easily accessible repository in the operator's network.

Part of Openwave's suite of Adaptive Messaging solutions and products, the Network Address Book consists of a broad range of contact access and management tools to seamlessly retrieve contacts stored in the network over wireless and wireline voice and data networks. With the convergence between the mobile and fixed line networks, telecommunications operators can provide value-added services to users regardless of their location, access technology or device, leading to new ways of increasing loyalty, revenue and usage.

"Just as consumers call a person, not a place, so too should contact databases be device and location-independent. Updates made to a web-mail address book, for example, should be seamlessly replicated across all devices," said David Ratner, vice president of Digital Identity for Openwave. "We're starting to see the promise of converged services through adaptive messaging finally become a reality -- Openwave's network address book makes access to information intuitive. We look forward to working with Plaxo and Voxmobili to provide this new, service to our global network of operators as a means to drive differentiation and value to their subscribers."

As part of today's news, Plaxo and Openwave also intend to form a strategic alliance whereby the two companies will engage in joint sales and marketing activities.

"Plaxo has changed the way people think about the address book," said Venkates Swaminathan, vice president of business development for Plaxo. "The Plaxo smart address book provides over 10 million members with a single, self-updating, accurate source of contact information that is available across numerous applications and devices. By working with Openwave, we intend to allow them to offer their operator customers the industry's leading address book solution, enabling them to offer triple and quad-play services to their customers and generate new revenue."

"An open platform, the address book is easily integrated with complementary services including messaging and calendaring allowing operators to offer their subscribers a true convergent solution," said Eric Vieillevigne, Managing Director Voxmobili. "By working with Openwave, Voxmobili's products will be integrated with their highly scaleable subscriber data management solution, and we can leverage their channel reach to bring our know-how and synchronization product expertise to a wide global audience."

The Openwave Network Address Book is a multi-access network address book that enables users to manage their contacts from virtually any physical location and on any platform. Highly brandable, the network address book can be adapted to the service providers' look and feel, local specifics and languages and is built on Openwave's subscriber data management platform to allow easy integration, via standards-based application program interfaces (APIs), with other service enablers such as presence, location, and network-based information.

The Network Address Book extends Openwave's suite of adaptive messaging products and services that are each designed to take into account the needs of service providers and consumers in a converged marketplace, and offer the ability to personalize and simplify messaging services, so that consumers can focus on the act of communication, rather than the network, device, or protocol used.

Openwave's messaging, location, browsing and content services span networks and devices. Today, Openwave software is used by more than 100 mobile operators, broadband providers and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) to enable access to data services for more than 500 million consumers around the world.
