ESS Introduces Software for Job Hazard Analysis

TEMPE, Ariz. - September 16, 2004 - In an effort to help Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) professionals improve workplace safety and reduce the number of workers compensation claims, ESS today announced the imminent release of Job Hazard Analysis Management Software.

The Job Hazard Analysis Management Software module, the latest addition to ESS Compliance Suite portfolio of mid-market solutions, is designed to help EH&S users anticipate accidents before they happen by simplifying the development of job hazard analyses and associated written safety program components, including personal protection equipment (PPE).

It also addresses seven industry sectors identified as the most susceptible to workplace injury and illness by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in its Strategic Management Plan for 2003-2008. Included are food processing, public warehousing and storage, and concrete manufacturing and masonry.

Job Hazard Analysis Management Software makes PPE program development easier for these and other industries, and enhances the types of information EH&S professionals can capture during their job hazard analyses by allowing them to:

o Identify hazards and required engineering and administrative control measures, as well as PPE.

o Document environmental or ergonomic conditions that may be present during a job or activity.

o Attach Windows. supported media files, images and documents to JHAs, including observational videos, facility diagrams or photographs showing potential hazards.

o Create a list of required PPE for any employee, based on job title, location and department.

o Associate JHAs with job titles, departments and locations.

In addition, users can record all parties involved in JHAs, including those interviewed, observed or otherwise engaged; define standard phrases for describing hazards and control measures; and duplicate JHAs for similar jobs, allowing them to be more proactive in identifying hazards and appropriate control measures.

"Job hazard analyses are an important tool for identifying safety gaps in task execution and training programs. They reduce employee risk and can save businesses thousands of dollars in lost productivity by avoiding occurrences such as hospital stays and worker compensation costs," said Ray Richeson, ESS senior vice president and general manager for the Compliance Suite product line. "Our Job Hazard Analysis Management Software makes JHAs painless and integrates them into existing corporate safety policies."
