Exalead Simplifies Enterprise-Wide Information Access with New Unified Search Software

exalead one:enterprise 4.0 Delivers Dramatic Performance Increases, Greater Flexibility and Semantic Technologies for Faster, More Accurate Search Results

NEW YORK, March 6 / -- Exalead, a global provider of search software designed to simplify access to information no matter where it resides, today announced exalead one:enterprise(TM) 4.0. Built on the company's unified exalead one:search(TM) technology platform, the new version of Exalead's enterprise search software delivers tremendous performance improvements, greater flexibility and customization capabilities, as well as new semantic technologies to improve multi-lingual search results.

"At Exalead, we saw a clear opportunity to bring a new approach to search -- one that allows users to find information more naturally," said Francois Bourdoncle, president and chief executive officer of Exalead. "Exalead's software lets users search the way they think, by serendipity, to intuitively discover relevant information with a few simple clicks."

New features for this release of exalead one:enterprise include:

o Dramatic performance increases: Indexing and search performance, already one of Exalead's strong competitive advantages, has been increased by a factor of three for large document collections (up to two hundred million documents on a single server).

o New integration with exalead one:desktop(TM): Together, exalead one:desktop, one:workgroup(TM) and exalead one:enterprise software products offer a unified view of information whether it resides on one's PC, company Intranet or the Web.

o Enhanced configurability: Exalead has implemented a new HTTP crawler configuration tool to allow administrators to have a better control of the crawler's behavior.

o Tighter security: A refined security infrastructure allows for a finer-grained control of the access control list (ACL) of any document, including Windows or UNIX(R) files, Lotus Notes items, database entries and even HTML pages.

o Increased flexibility: Improved support for custom style sheets (CSS) allow administrators to more easily customize the Exalead user interface, and take full control of the style and layout.

o Support for more industry standards: Exalead's software products and user-interfaces now include support for W3C specifications, including the W3C WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative).

o High-performance real-time filtering technology: Exalead enterprise products now feature a new powerful and high-performance real-time filtering technology infrastructure. This technology provides the first truly unified integrated tool that can be used for lexical, grammatical, structural (XML-based) and business-rules-based filtering. It can be used for countless advanced applications (semantic indexing, feature extraction and classification).

o Advanced semantic technologies: Exalead now offers named entity recognition (people, places, dates, currency); thesaurus integration; a full-fledged document categorization module based on Exalead's new high-performance filtering technology; and a new open architecture for integrating third-party semantic indexing technologies.

o Advanced query capabilities and linguistics: Spelling suggestion, phonetic and proximity search, fuzzy matching, word stemming, multi-language search, automatic phrase detection, automatic translation, regular expressions, NEAR operator, and more.

o Extended multilingual support: Exalead solutions now natively support more than 49 languages, including native support of Chinese, Japanese and other Asian languages. An open architecture for word tokenization has also been added to support special linguistic needs.

o Easy configuration: The point-and-click configuration user interface that makes Exalead products so easy to deploy now has an expert mode and a RAD tool (Rapid Application Development) for complex applications. The configuration module is now also fully remote-controllable via Web Services APIs.

o "IDC believes that search engine customers today are seeking affordable, scalable, search engines that are easy and quick to deploy," said Sue Feldman, IDC's VP for Content Technologies. "Price is important, but in addition, customers require features such as categorization, ease of navigation, and entity extraction, as well as document level security for good enterprise search. Exalead's new enterprise 4.0 release addresses these requirements."

A Simpler Way to Search
Exalead's unified one:search platform was developed to scale and adapt to typical enterprise environments, which means businesses can download, install the software, begin indexing information and benefiting from it in days, not weeks. Exalead supports a variety of 32- and 64-bit operating systems (including Windows, Linux, Solaris, Tru64, UNIX) and processors and a wide range of connectors are available for most industry standard information databases, including SQL, Lotus Notes, Documentum and LiveLink.

Exalead's strategy is to automatically classify information based on the information's structure, for example by author, format or location, rather than rely on dictionaries and taxonomies. For every query, exalead one:enterprise automatically returns a list of related terms and categories based on the information's structure to help users narrow or broaden a search. Additionally, thumbnail images are provided for all results, allowing users to quickly determine the relevance of a document, Web page or multimedia file.
