Software facilitates deployment of WLAN technology.

Press Release Summary:

Enterprise Managed AP helps device manufacturers bring WLAN products to market while maintaining secure network. Multiple Access Points can be deployed to cover workspace, multiple buildings, or across continent as self-managed cluster of APs. All APs in cluster share single configuration profile and can be managed as single AP. Automatic channel planning and load balancing optimize scarce radio resources without centralized management systems or WLAN switches.

Instant802(TM) Introduces New Software Development Platform Designed for Wireless Enterprise Infrastructure Equipment

BRISBANE, Calif., Dec. 21 - Instant802 Networks, Inc., a leading supplier of wireless software for device manufacturers and service providers, today announced the introduction of the Enterprise Managed AP (EMAP) software platform. EMAP enables device manufacturers to bring leading-edge wireless LAN (WLAN) products to market more quickly, with lower cost, and better performance.

Enterprises that are adding wireless LAN technology to their IT infrastructure cannot afford to compromise on security and manageability in exchange for the freedom that wireless deployment affords. Now WLAN device manufacturers can use Instant802's EMAP software platform to deliver what their enterprise customers require to deploy WLAN technology while maintaining a secure network that is easy to manage.

Access Points based on the EMAP software platform enable fully secured wireless networks without the need for additional management applications or special WLAN switches. Multiple APs can be deployed to cover a workspace, multiple buildings or across a continent as a self-managed cluster of APs. All APs in the cluster share a single configuration profile and can be managed as though they were a single AP, dramatically cutting the cost of management. The EMAP platform also introduces automatic channel planning and load balancing. Using these features, EMAP-based devices are able to optimize scarce radio resources without the need for expensive centralized management systems or WLAN switches.

EMAP is certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance for WPA2(TM), a security standard that deploys the most advanced security techniques. Enterprises can thus deploy wireless devices across the network or offer a guest network that allows visitors to access the Internet without compromising security. Additionally, because EMAP allows up to four beacons per radio, enterprise customers can use a single access point for both data and voice-over-IP, reducing the number of devices required in the network while increasing speed and efficiency.

"For the first time, WLAN device manufacturers can offer their enterprise customers the benefits of wireless in a feature-rich device that meets their critical requirement for security and manageability", said Dave Fraser, CEO at Instant802 Networks. "The EMAP software platform offers manufacturers unique capabilities that can be found no other place, such as clustering, load balancing, and automatic channel planning," added Fraser.
