ANTs Data Server 3.4 Now Shipping

BURLINGAME, Calif., Jan. 23 - Promising the industry's first true path to database consolidation, ANTs software, inc. (BULLETIN BOARD: ANTS) , a developer of high-performance SQL database management systems, today announced it is now shipping the production release of its flagship ANTs Data Server 3.4, the only database to support applications written for any of six popular databases. Enterprises can now move their applications written for Oracle, Oracle-TimesTen, SQL Server, Sybase, MySQL and Informix to the ANTs Data Server with significantly less effort, while reducing their database license, hardware, maintenance, support and administrative costs.

"The early access release we began offering in November has been greeted with unprecedented interest, resulting in hundreds of downloads. Evaluations are currently being conducted by a Fortune 100 retailer, a leading consumer goods manufacturer and a major financial institution among numerous others," said Boyd Pearce, CEO of ANTs Software. "This production release is more robust and has exciting new features such as .NET support and replication -- even to other database products, but the promise of true database consolidation is one of the primary reasons for excitement in the industry."

ANTs Data Server 3.4 adds compatibility with MySQL data types, functions and SQL extensions, allowing the vast majority of MySQL applications to be ported quickly, without the major rewrites, retraining and cost usually associated with application migration.

"ANTs is an ideal alternative for MySQL customers concerned by Oracle's acquisition of Innobase OY and its InnoDB database technology at the core of MySQL," said Pearce. "Oracle's ownership of InnoDB has created considerable uncertainty for MySQL users, who are still not clear of Oracle's plans."

ANTs Data Server 3.4 also makes it easier for Informix customers to migrate their applications to the ANTs Data Server. In addition to compatibility with most Informix data types, functions and SQL extensions, ANTs Data Server 3.4 also supports Informix stored procedures and triggers.

Other features include support for Microsoft .NET, as well as heterogeneous replication to non-ANTs databases.

By moving applications to the ANTs Data Server, organizations can cut costs from 50 to 75 percent compared to Informix, Oracle, Oracle-TimesTen, SQL Server, Sybase and other traditional databases, and from 35 to 50 percent compared to open source databases such as MySQL.
