FiveSight Announces PXE: Affordable BPEL Implementation Reduces Complexity & Cost Of Building Connected Applications

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.,- FiveSight Technologies, Inc, a software technology company delivering standards-based business process execution infrastructure products to enterprise customers and software vendors, today announced PXE (Process eXecution Engine) at the JavaOne conference in San Francisco. PXE is a BPEL (Business Process Execution Language) implementation designed for software developers and architects who need a non-proprietary, widely-available foundation for building connected applications.

BPEL is an XML-based programming language currently under development by OASIS. BPEL complements existing application models, such as J2EE(TM), by enabling developers to combine services into business processes. BPEL is designed to address the complexities inherent to interaction logic underlying connected applications, including state management, compensating transactions, and message correlation to name a few. Without BPEL, ad-hoc approaches require complex, error-prone and repetitive custom code to be developed, a costly and risky endeavor. BPEL provides a standards-based alternative to build-it-yourself and proprietary approaches, by improving the agility and flexibility of connected applications. As a result, BPEL is quickly becoming the technology of choice for developing software in a services-oriented architecture (SOA).

PXE is a platform-agnostic implementation of BPEL that allows software developers to build process execution and service orchestration functionality into custom or packaged business applications. Most enterprise solutions today such as customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management (SCM), enterprise resource planning (ERP) and various integration applications, have complex services and processes that would benefit from orchestration. PXE aims to dramatically reduce the complexity, cost and risk of building connected applications by introducing a ubiquitous, industrial-strength implementation of BPEL for the process execution layer of the standardized software stack.

"PXE is a portable, reliable and extensible implementation of the BPEL standard built for software developers who need a non-proprietary option for handling process execution that leaves the power and creativity in their hands," said Paul Brown, Chief Technology Officer of FiveSight. "Business process execution engines like PXE will be fixtures in enterprise infrastructure, as common as operating systems and databases are now, and we created PXE to deliver on the vision of business process execution as universal, accessible, and affordable technology."

PXE is designed to embed in a J2EE environment but can be quickly adapted to a variety of runtime environments. PXE gives developers the flexibility to get the job done with a full range of features from Ant integration and command-line tools to a fully customizable persistence layer, open source examples and open APIs. PXE's asynchronous architecture is designed to be scalable and reliable so it can integrate with mission-critical applications. PXE allows developers to leverage current investments in technologies and deployed middleware to deliver connected applications more quickly, cost-effectively, and with less risk.

For IT developers or integrators building custom business process systems, PXE is architected and engineered to be a component in a best-of-breed web services architecture. Instead of including web services management support, an ESB, or a SOAP stack, PXE is built for interoperability and easy integration with complementary software components. PXE's minimal design also lets software vendors embed BPEL-based process execution facilities into their products, resulting in faster time-to-market and reduced development risks.

Pricing and Availability
PXE is built for the enterprise but priced for adoption by developers. PXE is available for an annual developer license subscription of $999 US, which includes e-mail support. A process engine deployment license is $1999 US per CPU. Developers interested in PXE should request access through early-access@fivesight.com.
