Patent Attorney Launches Innovative Patent Software from Spore Inc.

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 9 -- JiNan Glasgow, founder and CEO of Spore Inc., today announced the commercial release of proprietary software for patent mapping, analysis, and visualization. The Spore suite includes Spore® Search and Visualizer and Patent Matrix® Diagrams designed to efficiently guide companies through the patent process, enabling them to strategically plan and manage intellectual property (IP) issues.

Spore Inc. is a company offering expert consulting services and software for the various areas of intellectual property intelligence including: individual patent mapping, portfolio mapping, competitive landscape mapping, evolutionary trends mapping and invention capture. Spore's advanced IP intelligence tools streamline every patent search and analysis process -- from competitive intelligence to due diligence, from valuation to innovation rating, from patentability to designing around existing patents.

Patent Matrix is proprietary software that allows users to create IP intelligence by automatically creating claims diagramming for individual patents. The Patent Matrix software is the only tool available for automatically evaluating a new invention prior to engaging patent counsel to draft and file a new patent application -- saving critical resources by pursuing only commercially valuable and effective patents. Patent Matrix provides graphical representations, allowing for a comprehensive analysis with the ability to link to more detailed text when needed.

Coupled with Spore diagrams, the software provides technology mapping for groups of patents and/or pending applications, based upon a particular technology filed, a portfolio, competitive patents, and/or new invention disclosures. Together, Spore and Patent Matrix diagrams provide a strategic planning tool that allows users to identify trends, determine patent gaps and opportunities, and design around competitors' patents. The diagrams also facilitate communication of patent issues with the business decision-makers -- from the CEO to the Board of Directors -- ensuring competent, informed decisions on technology issues in real time.

"Spore is the first company to offer an IP software tool designed to simplify the patent process in the most efficient and cost effective way possible," said Glasgow, a practicing patent attorney and a former patent examiner with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. "After a decade of working with traditional patent processes that were substantially manual reviews of extraordinary amounts of electronic data, I realized the need for a tool to help companies grasp the power of patents in a systematic way to stay competitive and maximize the value of their patent portfolios. By communicating with patent attorneys and optimizing the use of outside counsel, our customers can save money and time by utilizing Spore and Patent Matrix software tools."

With Spore and Patent Matrix software, companies can automatically map competitive landscapes to identify competitors and evolutionary trends in a technology area, resulting in better, informed IP decisions at a lower operating cost. Patent Matrix Diagrams examine inventions before drafting patent applications saving time and resources while identifying new patent opportunities. Additionally, a user can tailor diagrams to easily communicate the value of a patent portfolio to employees, management, investors and potential new business partners or licensees. Coupled with the ability to map issued and pending patents by company, functionality or classification, Spore software can greatly enhance competitive advantage as well.

"Surprisingly, intellectual property is often the least understood corporate asset," continued Glasgow. "In today's ever-changing environment, it is vital to be strategic in your IP approach to continue to stay ahead and identify new business opportunities. Many companies do not realize the benefits and value of a strong IP portfolio -- or may misunderstand what their portfolio actually covers. With our software products, we can help companies effectively streamline the process to achieve maximum IP intelligence."

Glasgow brings an extensive knowledge and technical background of the IP industry to lead Spore as it transforms the IP software solutions industry. In July 2004, Glasgow merged her IP law firm, Glasgow Law Firm, PLLC, with MacCord Mason, PLLC in order to focus all of her efforts on Spore. Glasgow has a technical background encompassing many different areas of expertise. Her educational background consists of degrees in engineering, law and theology from NC State University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Duke University, respectively.
