Spotfire Enables Live, End-User Creation of Guided Analytic Applications

New DecisionSite Analysis Builder, Posters and one-click data access speed customer realization of unique competitive advantage

SOMERVILLE, Mass., June 2, 2003 - Spotfire Inc., a leading provider of Guided Analytic(TM) applications and services, today announced a new release of DecisionSite(TM) that dramatically increases customers' ability to apply their own expertise and best practices to the analysis of critical business data.

The new release includes the introduction of the DecisionSite Analysis Builder, which gives end users the ability to generate visual and interactive analytic applications that are driven by expert analysis processes - captured live by the Analysis Builder. These end-user generated analytic applications are ready for deployment across the organization with no additional development.

"DecisionSite was already a robust, flexible, easy to use analytic and data visualization platform. Analysis Builder makes the capturing of the analysis process as easy as doing the analysis," said Charlie Martin, CEO of Naxos Solutions, a value-added reseller and Spotfire Alliance Partner. "Analysis Builder will save weeks of software development and IT time. It is an analysis capture tool, automating and recreating the complete analysis process with no modification of code."

Spotfire's Global 2000 customers in pharmaceuticals, oil and gas, high tech manufacturing and consumer packaged goods are constantly seeking to realize unique competitive advantages in products, services, marketing strategies, and business operations. In a pharmaceutical company, this means gaining unique advantages in the selection of chemical compounds, disease targets, and new markets. In a semiconductor manufacturing company, this means unique advantages in eliminating defects and shortening the time to production yield. In an oil and gas company, this means unique advantages in reservoir analysis, drilling decisions, and production optimization. In a financial services company, this means unique advantages in portfolio management, risk assessment and sales and marketing analysis.

"Businesses require greater efficiency while enabling flexibility to respond to changing conditions," said Henry Morris, vice president for applications and information access at IDC. "Spotfire's DecisionSite is noteworthy for its ability to represent decision-making processes as guided analysis, providing increased efficiency. The new capability to enable end users to create and modify these Guides provides greater flexibility in the resulting analytic applications, meeting a key business requirement."

Poster Mail

In a research, engineering or manufacturing environment requiring close collaboration, DecisionSite Posters can be used to capture and communicate decisions made from data analysis. This new release of DecisionSite includes new DecisionSite Posters features such as the ability to publish and communicate analysis and decision data as Posters directly through the customers' email system lowering the learning curve and insuring rapid communication of analysis results.

New "one-click" data access

In addition, this new version of DecisionSite provides "one-click" access to data in any format from any source without additional software, development, or the need to leave the Guided Analytic application. This removes lengthy steps in data access programming by allowing administrators to pre-map any source data residing in Oracle, DB2, Access, text files, tables, HTML or Excel, directly into DecisionSite so that users can add new data to an analysis on-demand.

"Customers have asked us for an analysis capability to extract immediate, pragmatic results from their existing investments in data and infrastructure," commented David Butler, Spotfire's vice president of product strategy and marketing. This requires an analytic platform from which applications can be readily generated that support the customers' own analysis and business process. We felt that the best way to accomplish this was to empower actual end-users with the ability to integrate the analysis process and data directly without the need to always go to the IT organization. This capability was so critical to the speed of the realization of customer competitive advantage that we made it a standard feature within DecisionSite - available to all of our customers under maintenance."

Availability and pricing

The DecisionSite Analysis Builder is available immediately to all DecisionSite customers under maintenance agreements with no additional license fee. The new version of DecisionSite and DecisionSite Posters are available immediately.
