Agilent Technologies' New Comprehensive Foundry Development Infrastructure Speeds Agilent ADS Design Kit Implementation

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 9, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a comprehensive development infrastructure that enables semiconductor foundries to quickly implement their own process design kits for the Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) electronic design automation (EDA) software suite. Engineers use process design kits to design high-frequency ICs to manufacturer specifications for communications products such as cellular phones, wireless and broadband networks, and radar and satellite communications systems.

"Design kit quality is a key element of our customer's success," said Don Mathes, vice president of the Marketing and Sales Group at WIN Semiconductors. "The structured approach provided by Agilent greatly simplifies the task of creating and maintaining high-quality design kits. Using these tools, we have recently implemented a fully functional set of parameterized layout artwork for our WPP15 and WPL15 ADS kits that will greatly improve the productivity of our customers."

The dedicated design kit infrastructure within Agilent ADS enables foundries to offer comprehensive design kits for all their design processes that fully utilize the extensive functionality of ADS. The new ADS design kit infrastructure consists of the ADS graphical cell compiler that is used to develop parameterized artwork macros and software that automatically tests the simulation behavior of the active and passive models used by the design kit. Complete and documented methodology and dedicated training classes also help foundries to efficiently develop design kits for ADS. Engineers using these ADS process design kits benefit by being able to easily load and manage multiple design kits simultaneously.

Agilent plans to offer additional design kit test features specifically for foundries, such as automatic testing and debugging capabilities that ensure consistency of operation with design kits, during the second half of 2003.

"Foundries have reacted enthusiastically to our approach to design kit development," said Riccardo Giacometti, foundry program manager for Agilent's EEsof EDA Division. "Agilent's design kit infrastructure enables foundries to quickly develop and distribute high-quality design kits on their own. As a result, all the leading MMIC foundries and several RFIC foundries now provide kits for our ADS platform."

ADS design kit infrastructure software and documentation are included in ADS, and the training classes are provided free of charge to qualified foundries. More information on Agilent's ADS design kit infrastructure is available at www.agilent.com/find/eesof.
