Camiant Unveils Universal Edge Resource Manager to Deliver Policy Control for Video Applications
MARLBOROUGH, Mass., April 3 /- Camiant, the worldwide leading provider of policy control solutions, today announced the Camiant Universal Edge Resource Manager (UERM), which enables cable operators to maximize bandwidth efficiency across services, including switched digital video and video on demand (VOD).
Traditionally, cable networks have been architected with dedicated QAMs tied to a particular channel or service, such as VOD, VoIP or high-speed Internet. This architecture resulted in inefficient use of network resources as unused bandwidth remained idle during periods when it could have been utilized to deliver more popular services or programming. Camiant's Universal Edge Resource Manager enables QAM sharing, enabling bandwidth to be distributed as needed across an expanded host of services including switched digital video or Modular-CMTS.
The edge resource manager plays a significant role in switched digital video and video on demand deployments, ensuring that bandwidth is made available in dynamic response to those programs being actively requested by subscribers.
"Cable operators deploying Camiant's Universal Edge Resource Manager are able to leverage policy-based intelligence to best control bandwidth allocation, enabling more channels in a switched environment or expanded VOD content," said Susie Kim Riley, founder and chief technology officer for Camiant. "Camiant's ability to provide edge resource management is a natural extension of our leading efforts in the development of policy control technology."
The Universal Edge Resource Manager compliments Camiant's Multimedia Policy Engine to maintain a stateful view of network edge resources and to dynamically allocate resources to attain improved bandwidth efficiencies.
"Camiant is dedicated to ongoing innovation in policy control as cable operators continue to build more control plane intelligence into their networks for new innovative services and maximizing resource utilization," said Riley.
Camiant's proven policy control platform is the market leader with service providers worldwide deploying its solution to differentiate services such as SIP-based telephony, video communications, streaming media, games and commercial services, with quality of service.
Camiant's policy solution, available today, enables service providers to deploy non-IMS to fully-compliant IMS applications. Through real-time allocation of resources, Camiant enables service providers to maximize the utilization of bandwidth, enhance their customers' experience and increase revenue.
Camiant is a privately-held company with investors including North Bridge Venture Partners, Matrix Partners and Pilot House Venture Group. For more information, please visit www.camiant.com/.
