Handmark® Adds Images, Expanded Email, More News, and Improved Search to Express(TM) Wireless Service Bundle
KANSAS CITY, MO - July 13, 2004 Handmark has announced a free update to the award winning Express(tm) bundle of wireless services. Version 1.2 is a free update available to current users and is now available to any new subscriber. Handmark bundles seven wireless services into Pocket Express® with a "PageOne" view for fast access to news, stocks, weather, sports, 411 directory search, movie details, maps and directions.
"It's like an electronic newspaper that's published just for you, anytime you choose to update," said Douglas Edwards, Handmark vice president. "We've added photos to the Reuters News service and Doppler radar images to the Weather, and many more major and minor enhancements."
Other new features include:
o Two new News categories, "US News" and "Life" in addition to photos in all news channels.
o Email turn-by-turn directions from the Map channel using the mobile device's own email client.
o Detailed street level maps and directions can also be saved for future use.
o Weather watches and warnings are now automatically integrated into any selected city with new alerts highlighted in red.
o Easy access to both U.S. and Canadian city weather forecasts, as well as 32,000 cities outside of North America.
o In addition to Doppler radar images, Weather now supports both U.S. and metric measurements.
o Movie searches now return theaters in both specified and surrounding zip codes.
These features and more are contained in the Handmark Express bundle of seven wireless services all for less than seven dollars per month. Because Express is an application that talks directly to Handmark servers it is much faster and more reliable than web-based information searches. The Express application retains all information from the last update so news and other content and be read and reviewed even when the device is out of range of a wireless signal.
Handmark Pocket Express wireless services are currently available for Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices including both WiFi PDAs and smartphones. Express is available directly from < express.handmark.com > for $6.99 per month and at retail with a prepaid one-year subscription for $69.90 (U.S., MSRP) and at select retail stores where mobile devices are sold.
It is easily worth the price of just one of the information channels. Handmark Express enables a wireless search of residential and business directories by name, address, or as a reverse directory. Express users can avoid paying for 411 directory assistance calls. With Express look-ups the complete listing information for all possible matches, including name, address, and phone number, are displayed. Users can choose the correct listing, dial directly from Express, add the complete listing data directly to the device's permanent built-in address book, and display a map of the location.
