IBM TotalStorage Multiple Device Manager V1.1: Designed to Consolidate the Management and Control of Storage

Overview

IBM TotalStorage® Multiple Device Manager (MDM) V1.1, part of the IBM TotalStorage Open Software Family, is software that is designed to provide a centralized management control point for IBM storage devices that implement the Storage Management Interface Specification (SMI-S), including:

· Base device management support for IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Storage Server(TM) (ESS), FAStT, SAN Volume Controller (including any supported storage virtualized with the SAN Volume Controller), and SAN Integration Server products
· Performance management support for the ESS, SAN Volume Controller, and SAN Integration Server products
· Replication management support for the ESS

The IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center group of products, a subset of the IBM TotalStorage Open Software Family, brings together a number of IBM's storage management software products, and consists of Tivoli® Storage Resource Manager, Tivoli Storage Area Network Manager, and IBM TotalStorage Multiple Device Manager. The Productivity Center supports open integration, automation, and management of the storage environment.

IBM TotalStorage Multiple Device Manager itself provides two separate priced features, the Performance Manager and the Replication Manager. Each of these is built on a common component called the Device Manager, which is designed to centralize the management of your SAN storage fabric and disk environment.

The Device Manager includes the Productivity Center User Interface, which provides an integration and common launching point for the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center products. The Productivity Center User Interface is also available separately, via Web download, at no charge, for use with any of the IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center products.

The Performance Manager allows administrators to monitor metrics such as I/O rates and cache utilization, and supports optimization of storage through the identification of "best LUNs."

The Replication Manager is designed to provide significant productivity benefits and to help minimize potential errors by automating the source-to-target pairing setup, monitoring consistency groups, and tracking replication operations.
