Siemens Releases New Version of Simatic PCS 7

Eliminating Traditional Automation System Boundaries

SPRING HOUSE, Pa., June 26, 2003 - Siemens Energy & Automation has released a new version of its innovative SIMATIC PCS 7 Process Automation System. SIMATIC PCS 7 Version 6 eliminates the traditional boundaries that exist between the different software tools used for the configuration of a process automation system. A single common interface configures the HMI, control, historian, batch and fieldbus aspects of a process control device. This device-centric approach increases productivity, reduces personnel training, improves change management and reduces configuration time. Furthermore, PCS 7 Version 6 significantly increases system capacity.

This new version also adds significant flexibility by allowing online system modifications for its I/O, controller, HMI, batch and historian components. Features such as support for concurrent engineering, automatic change management, optimized communication and automatic optimization of the control strategy enhance the usability of PCS 7. Centralized security administration, electronic signature and configuration audit trails support manufacturers who need to comply with FDA regulations, i.e. 21 CFR Part 11. With PCS 7's SIMATIC Batch, operations are improved via dynamic unit allocation, batch manager redundancy and enhanced recipe generation capabilities.

The new version of SIMATIC PCS 7 is part of Totally Integrated Automation. Totally Integrated Automation provides uniform automation technology on a single platform for all industries throughout the entire manufacturing facility - from inbound logistics, through primary and secondary processes, to outbound logistics. Leveraging the Totally Integrated Automation platform, SIMATIC IT enables optimal plant utilization through manufacturing execution systems and business applications.
