SpikeSource Announces Drupal SpikeIgnited Solution for Windows

New Offering Brings Tested, Integrated and Certified Open Source Product to Windows and Linux Users

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., July 26 /-- SpikeSource, a provider of enterprise-class open source solutions, today announced a new SpikeIgnited(TM) version of the Drupal Web content management solution. This new SpikeIgnited version of Drupal, based on Drupal 5.1, is SpikeSource's first solution that has been tested and certified for Microsoft Windows.

"The number of organizations taking advantage of open source applications on Windows server is greatly increasing," said Bill Hilf, general manager of platform strategy at Microsoft Corp. "Successful companies continue to find ways to leverage the Microsoft platform and tools to meet their growing business needs. We are excited to be working with SpikeSource to assist in offering business-ready open source applications on the Microsoft platform."

Drupal SpikeIgnited has been tested, integrated and certified on both Windows and Linux using the company's proven SpikeIgnite platform. Through the SpikeIgnite platform, SpikeSource delivers fully-tuned and optimized solutions that are ready for the enterprise, yet priced to be attractive to smaller companies. Solutions are integrated and packaged with the components they depend on, and then built and tested on an automated framework that includes over 300,000 nightly tests. Additionally, the SpikeNet(TM) update service ensures that all software is continuously monitored for software, security and operational updates.

Drupal is an open source software project that makes it easy for Web site administrators and users to publish content to the Web, and is used by large sites such as The Onion, a satirical news publication (http://www.theonion.com/), and MTV's site in the United Kingdom (http://www.mtv.co.uk/). A WebWare 100 winner, Drupal enables better usability, improved administration, performance optimizations, and lots of new developer features for easier customization of Web sites and templates.

When open source-based components are added to an organization, the complexity of the solution environment increases. Recognizing this problem, SpikeSource developed the SpikeIgnite Platform to enable the rapid development and delivery of open source solutions, while ensuring the low-cost promise of the technology. SpikeSource can now bring solutions to market quickly without compromising quality or level of support, allowing the company to become a trusted, single-source of packaged business-ready open source applications.

"Drupal represents SpikeSource's first non-Linux product offering certified through the SpikeIgnited process," said Kim Polese, CEO of SpikeSource. "Eliminating the concern for compatibility, the SpikeIgnited version of Drupal is the answer for organizations looking to deploy mission-critical open source applications in their specific operating system."
