Bedford, Massachusetts, USA - Applied Science Laboratories (ASL), the world's leading eye tracking technology developer, announces a new and improved software release for the industry-standard Series 5000 Eye Tracking System. This new release offers powerful tools plus new and enhanced features for users of the modular, flexible Series 5000.

In making the announcement, Bob Baer, General Manager, said "This software release is the result of our pro-active work with our customers to meet the rapidly-changing needs of researchers. It contains many of the features and upgrades requested by our customers, and includes a number of special features including real-time horizontal/vertical strip chart; automated set up of the exclusive remote eye and head tracking system; and a new file format for greater flexibility." The release also features a new SDK with Microsoft com Object, supporting interfaces to Matlab, E Prime, Presentation and other analysis and presentation software. Baer adds, "It's a powerful package that significantly enhances the popular Series 5000's functionality and capabilities, which have in themselves made the 5000 the benchmark for eye tracking systems worldwide." The new release incorporates time-saving features for all Series 5000 applications, including the head mounted system, the remote system, and the eye tracking system for the fMRI environment.

Other enhancements in the new software release include an integrated upload function; increased data resolution; a pupil-only operating mode; improved eye and head tracking logic; new custom calibration options; selective tracking modality; updated manuals; and an updated install program.

Eye tracking systems provide an important design evaluation and research tool for computer displays used in aviation, aerospace, defense and industry. Applications include design of simulators, computer displays and control panels used in air traffic facilities, aircraft and cockpits, vehicles and complex manufacturing displays. Eye tracking systems have a wide range of medical research applications and could have significant potential for early detection and treatment of various disorders.

Applied Science Laboratories has been a pioneer in the examination of the human eye's movements and pupil dynamics for over 30 years. ASL was the first company to develop a head-mounted eye tracker, eye/head integration, parallax-free optics, and many other features that are industry standard. ASL's current range of computer-based eye movement measurement equipment has eye-tracking applications in moving vehicles, sports, WEB design, pupilometry and many more. ASL currently has tracking systems in the fields of medicine, cognitive psychology, training, simulation, biomechanics and human factors research.
