Overview
The functions of IBM Tivoli® System Automation for z/OS® V2.3
(SA z/OS) can help customers, who have single processor z/OS systems and Parallel Sysplex® clusters, by providing functions which ease systems management, helps reduce costs, and increase application availability. SA z/OS is designed to automate I/O, processor, and system operations. It includes out-of-the-box
automation for IMS(TM), CICS®, Tivoli Workload Scheduler, DB2®, mySAP, and WebSphere®.

Easier policy definition
Message automation of many applications and z/OS components is
self-configured out-of-the-box. This requires minimal effort in setup, and helps ensure high quality installation, as changed or new messages are shipped by IBM service. For the remaining messages, SA z/OS V2.3 provides single action easy message
management. Required z/OS and NetView® message definitions are
generated automatically. The powerful message policy supports
different automation for different start types or message codes. The customization dialogs are now easier to use than ever through enhanced defaults, multiple links and rename of policy entries, and policy import.

Easier operation and automation SA z/OS V2.3 allows you to:
o Easily navigate through the dependency graph
o Fill or overwrite start and stop requests with customer chosen
defaults
o Automate z/VM® guest system including Linux
o Have better control if and how groups are to be moved to images within a sysplex
o Help make sure that a minimum number of "servers" are active
o Easily identify the owner of a resource in case of a problem

More integrated automation
Health and performance monitoring provides the capability to:
o Define and manage monitors, such as Tivoli Monitoring, that run inside NetView or can be accessed from NetView
o Trigger actions and update compound status when monitor status changes

More powerful automation
o Simplified and fast inter-system communication via XCF and RMTCMD command facility via SNA or IP
o NetView Management Console Performance Enhancements
o WebSphere high availability automation (WebSphere V4 only)

IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS V2.3 requires IBM S/390
hardware supporting:
o z/OS (5694-A01) V1.3, or later
o Tivoli NetView for OS/390® R4 (5697-B82)
o Tivoli NetView for z/OS (5697-ENV) V5.1, or later
