emBoot Releases winBoot/i to Enable iSCSI Boot of Windows

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, July 25, 2006 -- emBoot Inc., an industry pioneer in delivering network boot capabilities, today released winBoot/i, supporting Microsoft's iSCSI software-enabled SAN Boot architecture. winBoot/i allows booting Microsoft Windows 2003 servers (including Microsoft Windows 2003 R2) from iSCSI storage using standard Ethernet network adapters, which delivers a compelling solution for simplifying server management, reducing costs, and deploying more robust disaster recovery solutions.

"The ability to boot Microsoft Windows 2003 from iSCSI storage using standard NICs delivers an important solution component for customers deploying iSCSI-based solutions in a Windows environment," said Dr. Claude Lorenson, group product manager, storage technologies, at Microsoft Corporation. "We have been working with emBoot under the iSCSI Software-Enabled SAN boot initiative in recognition of the increasing popularity of the iSCSI protocol among Windows customers, and look forward to continuing to work with emBoot to make additional iSCSI boot functionality available to Windows users."

"We believe the availability of iSCSI boot using standard network interface cards will further accelerate the adoption and deployment of iSCSI storage solutions," said John Matze, CEO of Siafu Software. "That's why we've chosen to ship winBoot/i pre-installed on our Swarm(TM) Series of iSCSI appliances to provide iSCSI boot as an optional component of our customers' storage solutions."

"Our customers tell us they are reducing complexity and operating costs while accelerating deployment times through simplified server management," said George Kostiuk, CEO of emBoot Inc. "They are also deploying more robust disaster recovery plans enabled by the flexibility of iSCSI boot using winBoot/i."
