IBM AIX 5L for POWER V5.2 Extends AIX Strengths to IBM eServer i5 Systems
Overview
The next-generation iSeries(TM) servers, IBM eServer i5 models 520 and 570, can take advantage of a new operating system dimension - AIX® 5L for POWER(TM) V5.2. With AIX 5L on these eServer® i5 servers, in conjunction with i5/OS, you can exploit advanced 64-bit system and software architectures and tap into a world of AIX software.
Supported applications for AIX 5L V5.2 that will run on the eServer i5 servers will be announced on or before the planned availability date.
AIX 5L is a cornerstone of UNIX® operating system-based on demand computing. It provides support for high-performance, large-scale symmetric multiprocessors and for highly scalable parallel processors.
AIX is not included in the eServer i5 models 520 or 570 system purchase price. Licenses must be purchased separately.
Advanced virtualization technologies allow the eServer i5 servers to run multiple operating systems and application environments simultaneously. With the addition of AIX 5L, these operating systems and application environments include IBM i5/OS (the next generation of OS/400® ), AIX 5L, Microsoft(TM) Windows(TM) Server, and Linux. By supporting multiple operating environments, the eServer i5 can enable companies to deploy new applications and consolidate operations on a single, highly flexible, resilient server.
