Cavium Networks Announces OCTEON(TM) CN30XX Processor Based Wireless Broadband Gateway Reference Design



Reference Design Enables Seamless Integration With Atheros Communications, Inc.'s Market-Leading AR5006XS 802.11a/b/g Single Chip WLAN Solution

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Feb. 1 / -- Cavium Networks, a world leader in security, network services and embedded processor solutions, today announced a best of breed 802.11 a/b/g broadband wireless gateway reference design. This design is based on the newly unveiled OCTEON CN30XX MIPS64(R) SoCs (system-on-chip) and the market leading Atheros Communications' AR5006XS single chip WLAN solution. Cavium Networks also announced that it will be supporting the upcoming 802.11n standard.

The OCTEON CN30XX reference and evaluation platform provides state of the art performance in a highly integrated package, ideally suited for wired and wireless Broadband Remote Access and Universal Threat Management Routers and Gateways, including the emerging 802.11n standard. Combined with the Atheros AR5414 single chip MAC/Baseband/Radio solution ODMs will be able to rapidly launch next generation Small-to-Medium Business & SOHO wireless gateways with market leading features at highly attractive price points.

The new OCTEON CN30XX SoC processors provide multi-100 Mbps application performance and include integrated Gigabit Ethernet interfaces. They integrate a custom MIPS64 processor core with the industry's most advanced multi-layer application acceleration and security processing hardware delivering breakthrough features and price/performance for next generation wired and wireless (802.11a/b/g/n) broadband routers, gateways, wireless access points and home NAS products.

The OCTEON CN30XX Processor Family includes the CN3005 and CN3010 Processors. The CN3005 processor includes a cnMIPS core at up to 400MHz, 64KB L2 cache, 16 bit DDR2, two GE interfaces, 32/66 PCI, USB 2.0 in a 350pin BGA package with a low power consumption of 2-3W. The CN3010 processor include a cnMIPS processor core at up to 500MHz, 128KB L2 cache, 32 bit DDR2, 3 GE interfaces, TDM/PCM, 32/66 PCI, USB 2.0 in a 525pin BGA package with 2-4W power consumption. OCTEON CN30XX and the OCTEON CN30XX reference and evaluation platform will be available in Q2 '06.
