Wide Input Range PoL Programmable DC/DC Converter Suits Industrial Applications

Murata Power Solutions extends range of DOSA-compliant module non-isolated Okami family

OKI-T/3-W32 Series

Murata Power Solutions today announced the introduction of the OKI-T/3-W32 series of surface mount point of load (PoL) DC/DC converters. Designed specifically to suit +12 or +24 VDC industrial applications where a wide input range within a standard package is highly desirable, this new series can accommodate a very wide input voltage range from +9 to +32 VDC. This gives designers the flexibility of using one part to cater for both nominal input voltages. They are ideal for user in higher voltage applications that require a lower voltage source to power FPGAs and microprocessors. Also, these highly efficient modules, with a typical efficiency of 89 %, are fully compatible with the Distributed-power Open Standards Alliance (DOSA) package specifications and measure just 11.9 x 20.8 x 8.5 mm (0.47 x 0.82 x 0.34) inches.

The non-isolated series offers a 3 Amp programmable output voltage that can be set from +0.75 to +4.5 VDC to suit the needs of an individual industrial design. Power output at 4.5 Vout is 13.5 W. Using the same standard pinout as other OKI point of load converters, the OKI-T3-W32 further extends the product family into growing markets and new applications.

A remote On/Off input, using either a positive or negative source, allows the output to be controlled or sequenced in the case of an end-product using multiple input voltage sources. The modules also provide several protection features including under voltage lock out, output short circuit, over current and over temperature.

The series is capable of driving up to 1000 µF ceramic capacitive loads, aiding keeping ripple and noise to a minimum.

Operating temperature is from -40 degrees C to up to +85 degrees C with derating suiting most demanding environments.

The use of Murata Power Solutions' point of load modules offer time and cost savings, together with reduced power system design risks. Customers can put their design efforts into the system design and not have to worry about the power design. All that is required are input and output capacitors and one resistor to program the output voltage. Layout, control loop stability, noise issues and protection are resolved in the module. By using one POL converter in place of multiple discrete parts also allows for a reduced bill of materials management and procurement.
