IBM System Storage DR550 Express is a data-retention solution designed for small to medium businesses. Delivered as an integrated solution, IBM DR550 Express can help businesses store, retrieve, manage, share, and protect regulated and nonregulated data. With DR550 Express Enhancements, IBM is expanding the capacity, offering native support for LTO Gen 3 WORM tape, and implementing a more competitive storage capacity-based software pricing structure. Well-suited for archiving e-mail, digital images, database applications, instant messages, account records, contracts or insurance claim documents, and a range of other data, it offers archival and retention capabilities to help organizations address emerging government and industry regulatory requirements and corporate governance practices.
The IBM System Storage DR550 Express solution integrates a range of technologies, including SCSI disk drives, RAID technologies, and policy- and event-based data management control code as a preconfigured solution. Ordered, delivered, and installed as an integrated solution, DR550 Express provides capacity upgrade options, helping to manage 1.1 TB of physical disk storage capacity, upgradeable to 3.5 TB or 5.3 TB, and additional external tape or optical storage per system.
Designed to be easy to install, configure, and operate, the solution leverages an IBM POWER5(TM) processor-based server combined with automatic policy-based data retention technologies to provide a cost-effective offering. This powerful solution fits into a separately purchased securable cabinet. The system's compact design can also help with fast and easy deployment, and incorporates an open and flexible architecture.
