Force Optical Broadcast Systems Introduces Smart IFLsTM for Inter-facility Satellite L-Band and IF Transport

Christiansburg VA - February 2005 - Force Optical Broadcast Systems has developed a new Smart IFLTM family of L-Band and IF transport products. Ideal for short range (2 km) and medium range (12 km) systems, Force's Smart IFLsTM provide excellent performance and system reliability. When used with Force's SNMP-compatible 3RU power supplies and chassis, the Smart IFLsTM create a fully fail-safe redundant transport solution with web-based or SNMP monitoring and control of key system parameters.

The Smart IFLTM family of transport links offers 1310 nm or 1550 nm transmission over single-mode optical fiber. Link configurations include 3RU rack-mount transmitters and receivers, a 3RU rack-mount transceiver, and stand-alone configurations. A number of status indicator LEDs allow the user to quickly assess the health of the IFL link, and greater monitoring and control is available when the links are used with the Force Models 3000UB and 3000UD SNMP-compatible power supplies. These allow the user to access real time data for such parameters as module serial number and part number, system uptime, firmware revision, and fault status as well as RF level status, link-gain settings, optical status, optical input power, and optical output power, depending on the transport link. The SNMP-compatible power supplies also allow for the remote control of certain Smart IFLTM system parameters. This allows the user to detect system failures and correct operating parameters for optimum performance, all via an SNMP management tool. Signal transport options include:

o L-Band 950-2500 MHz, 75 Ohm (Model 3034, 2 km; 3035, 12 km)

o L-Band 950-2500 MHz, 50 Ohm (Model 3029, 2 km; 3030, 12 km)

o IF 10-200 MHz, 75 Ohm (Model 3084, 2 km; 3085, 12 km)

o IF 10-200 MHz, 50 Ohm (Model 3079, 2 km; 3080, 12 km)
