Smart Card Chip features advanced flash memory for security.

Press Release Summary:

Theseus® Platinum 100 is aimed at high security ID projects and Subscriber Identification Modules (SIM) for mobile telecommunications applications. Memory management unit isolates executable applications to ensure that different applications on single card do not interfere with each other. Configurable memory allows operator to configure same module as either 32 K or 64 K SIM. Using flash memory eliminates risk of masked ROM obsolescence.

Emosyn Continues Smart Card Product Line Expansion

Theseus(r) Platinum Family Now Offers Wider Choice of Microcontroller Options

DANBURY, CT, USA - July 24, 2003 - Emosyn, the fabless semiconductor division of ATMI, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATMI) today announced the new Theseus(r) Platinum 100. This smart card chip is aimed at high security identification (ID) projects and Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) for mobile telecommunications applications.

Introduced less than two months after the arrival of its sibling
Theseus(r) Platinum 62, the Theseus Platinum 100 is a high security and cost-effective platform. Theseus Platinum 100 has inherent security advantages over competing memory technologies because of advanced flash memory. The advanced flash memory also lowers costs by allowing smart card vendors to configure SIMs with personalization and Over-The-Air (OTA) once in the subscriber's handset.

The Theseus Platinum 100 is notable for the presence of a new memory management unit (MMU), which provides even greater security. The MMU isolates executable applications from each other - the only effective way to ensure that different applications on a single card do not interfere with each other. This means that network operators can secure their value-added applications against possible threats from third-party software competing for space on the SIM.

Emosyn's Theseus Platinum product family extends the cost and performance advantages of its core flash memory competence. Using flash memory eliminates the risk of masked Read-Only Memory (ROM) obsolescence and the associated inventory costs. Emosyn's proprietary configurable memory enables software developers to assign any part of the non-volatile memory as code, variable data, or user data. The flexibility offered by configurable memory allows an operator to configure the same module as either a 32 kilobyte (K) or 64K SIM.

The Theseus Platinum 100 is the fourth product released in seven months, proving the effectiveness of Emosyn's modular design approach. Emosyn's Rania suite of rapid application development tools allows software to be developed and tested immediately on actual silicon. Full technical support is offered to developers under the Non-Disclosure Agreement available via Emosyn's technical support website. Different memory capacities in the Theseus Platinum family offer microcontroller options for almost any smart card application at a competitive price.
