Smart Camera simplifies 2D reading.

Press Release Summary:

Quadrus EZ(TM) can decode linear and 2D symbologies with 2-step calibration. Field of view locator allows user to align reader to symbol without use of video monitors or PC. Once symbol is aligned, user pushes auto button. System automatically calibrates on symbol. Camera is suitable for manufacturers transitioning from bar codes to 2D codes and who need product that can read both code types. It has video input/output, and USB and Ethernet connectivity.

Original Press Release:

New Smart Camera Simplifies 2D Reading for Manufacturers

February, 2002 - Renton, Wash.: Microscan's latest smart camera, Quadrus EZ(TM), is the next generation in 2D reading. By combining the functionality of a vision system with the ease of use and price point of a laser bar code scanner, Quadrus EZ(TM) provides manufacturers with an out-of-the-box solution for decoding both linear and 2D symbologies.

Regardless if a manufacturer is using linear bar codes or 2D symbologies, only two steps are required to set-up Quadrus EZ(TM). Using patented, leading edge technology, the field of view locator allows the user to positively align the reader to the symbol in a matter of seconds without the use of video monitors or even a PC. Once the symbol is aligned, all the user needs to do is push the "auto" button located on the back. Quadrus EZ(TM) will automatically calibrate on the symbol.

"What manufacturers want is a plug-and-play system that is easy to use and still provides a high degree of performance," commented Matt Allen, Product Marketing Manager for Microscan Systems, Inc. "Quadrus EZ(TM) and its auto button provides them with exactly that. What could take hours to accomplish with a vision system, Quadrus EZ(TM) has simplified down to the push of a button."

Since Quadrus EZ(TM) decodes both linear and 2D codes, it is ideal for manufacturers transitioning from bar codes to 2D codes and need a product that can read both code types. With the ability to decode 60 codes per second, Quadrus EZ(TM) has the processing power to perform in demanding high-speed applications. Additional features such as video input/output, USB and Ethernet connectivity gives Quadrus EZ(TM) the flexibility and functionality needed for easy integration into existing systems.

Microscan is a world leader in the design and development of fixed-mount bar code and 2D CCD decoding technology. In 1982, Microscan revolutionized the bar code scanning industry when it designed the first scanner to use a laser diode instead of a helium neon tube. Today, Microscan products service all major industries including clinical, electronics, factory automation, document handling, packaging, and automotive. Microscan is a Spectris company.
