Small and Medium-Sized Businesses Can Gain an Edge with Groundbreaking 15 and 20 Megabit Symmetrical FiOS Internet Speeds from Verizon

Big Data Movers Get Industry-Leading Upload Speeds at New, Lower Prices; Company Also Increases Existing Speeds

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 7 / / -- Starting now, small- and medium-sized businesses that upload large files such as engineering designs, complex financial documents, X-rays, legal files and data backups can do so more quickly and efficiently with Verizon's super-fast symmetrical FiOS Internet connections, at speeds of up to 20 megabits per second (Mbps).

For those who want even faster download speeds, Verizon offers up to 50 Mbps download (with 20 Mbps upload) at new, lower prices.

"No other carrier is delivering 15 Mbps or 20 Mbps* symmetrical service to small businesses," said David Frendo, director of business voice and broadband services for Verizon. "This new symmetrical upload and download broadband service is an outstanding value and a great tool for data-intensive small businesses.

"To top it off, we're selling our new FiOS services at prices close to those charged by the ordinary service providers for slower, asymmetric access," Frendo said.

The groundbreaking new service -- delivered straight to customers' businesses on the nation's most-advanced all-digital, all-fiber network -- is the first of its kind commercially available to U.S. customers on a mass scale.

Using a 20 Mbps upstream broadband connection, a business could upload a 250 megabyte (MB) file or a 3,500 page document in about 90 seconds, compared with about 47 minutes over a 768 kilobits per second (kbps) upstream connection. A 500 MB file, such as a medical imaging data set, could be uploaded in less than four minutes, compared with about 90 minutes over a 768 kbps connection. A 3 gigabyte (GB) file, such as a one-hour video shot with a high-definition video camera, could be uploaded in about 20 minutes, compared with more than nine hours over a 768 kbps connection.

The new symmetrical FiOS service's combination of fast upload and download speeds also enhances interactive services like video conferencing, telemedicine, video surveillance monitoring, online work collaboration, data backups and more.

Along with the introduction of FiOS Internet service at symmetrical speeds of 20 Mbps or 15 Mbps, the company has also increased the speed on its fastest business Internet plans and lowered prices by as much as 35 percent.

"We understand that both cost and performance are important to our business customers," said Frendo. "So we've reassessed our pricing structure and, where possible, we lowered our price while increasing the speed."

Verizon FiOS Internet Service for Business allows business owners to choose either a dynamic Internet protocol (IP) address or a static IP address. Dynamic IP addresses are best suited for small businesses that do not have a Web site but still use the Internet for research or light to moderate e-mail. Static IP addresses, where a specific Internet routing code is assigned for exclusive use, are ideal for small businesses that are highly automated, have e-commerce capabilities, have employees who telecommute, or that need to host Web or e-mail servers.

In some states (Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island) small- and medium-sized business customers can subscribe to 20M/20M service with a dynamic IP address for $99.99 per month; or with a static IP address, the 20M/20M service is $139.99 per month -- both with a two-year term agreement. The fastest speed available in these states is now 50M/20M for $199.99 per month with a dynamic IP address, or $239.99 per month with a static IP address -- both with a two-year term agreement.

In other states (California, Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Washington) small- and medium-sized business customers can subscribe to 15M/15M service with a dynamic IP address for $99.99 per month, or with a static IP address, the 15M/15M service is $139.99 per month both with a two- year term agreement. The fastest speed available -- 35M/5M with a dynamic IP address -- has been increased to 30M/15M for $199.99 per month, or $239.99 per month with a static IP address both with a two-year term agreement.

The plans are also available with 12-month agreements at higher prices. Savings on all the plans range from $45 to $70 per month, depending on the product and length of the agreement.

FiOS Internet service for small businesses is available as part of a bundle including local and long-distance calling services from Verizon, or as a stand-alone Internet access service. Small-business customers can receive free professional installation for their primary computer, plus a discount off their standard monthly rate with a qualifying local-calling service package, if the ONE-BILL option is selected.

All business service tiers include 24 x 7 business-class grade technical support. Companies also receive 20 MB (megabytes) of Web space and unlimited remote dial-up access that keeps employees connected when they're on the road.

Verizon offers a variety of products and services that allow businesses to customize the solutions they need to better compete in the marketplace.
