New OSHA - Compliant KeeGuard® Skylight Fall Prevention Railing Systems Install without Penetrating the Roof Membrane
(JULY - 2002) Kee Industrial Products, Inc. Buffalo, NY introduces the new KeeGuard® Skylight railing system that installs around rooftop skylights to protect against falling. The new KeeGuard Skylight is a freestanding railing system that installs without penetrating the roof membrane, and meets OSHA Standard CFR 29 1910.23 and CFR 29 1910.66, the company states. In most situations, CFR 29 1910.23 requires that the exposed sides of openings in floors or roofs have guardrail protection.
New KeeGuard Skylight railing systems are constructed of Kee Klamp® slip-on pipe fittings and schedule 40 1-1/2" standard pipe. Both the fittings and pipe are galvanized to be corrosion-resistant and virtually maintenance-free, according to Kee Industrial. The system does not block the light, and it is possible to install the railing system further from the edge so it is not visible through the skylight.
The minimum size of the new KeeGuard Skylight railing system is 10-ft. by 10-ft.; however, the company states that the railing system can be expanded to meet specific requirements and installed around odd-shaped skylights. It can be adapted to inclined roofs up to five degrees. No power tools are required for installation. The basic system typically can be installed in less than one hour by two workers, thus providing significant cost-savings over installing welded railings, Kee Industrial says.
