Single Board Computer works under harsh conditions.

Press Release Summary:

Equipped with flexible DVI-I graphics interface and suited for embedded applications, F9 consists of single-slot, 32-bit CompactPCI System Controller based on 1.8 GHz Pentium M (LV) or Celeron M (ULV) processors with clock speeds to 600 MHz. Heat sink eliminates need for fans, and computer operates over temperatures from 0-60°C. Gigabit Ethernet and dual USB ports are available on front panel, and standard memory resources include 1 Gb DRAM.

Original Press Release:

New Embedded Pentium M CompactPCI Single Board Computer is Ideal for Harsh Conditions

Austin, TX, August 24, 2004 - For designers of embedded applications, the new F9 Pentium-based single board computer (SBC) from MEN Micro (www.menmicro.com) offers both high performance and an operational range suitable for harsh industrial conditions. The F9 is a one-slot 32-bit CompactPCI System Controller based on the Pentium M (LV) with frequencies up to 1.8 GHz or the Celeron M (ULV) processors with clock speeds up to 600 MHz.

"Typical of our embedded SBCs, the F9 is particularly well suited for tough environments requiring rugged operational parameters," said Ernest Godsey, president of MEN Micro. "By combining the low power consumption of the Pentium M (LV) and the Celeron M (ULV) processors with several thermal management techniques that MEN has built into this product, the F9 is able to operate in environments that preclude the use of most off-the-shelf SBCs."

The F9 has been fitted with a specially designed heat sink that eliminates the need for fans in many embedded applications. The standard F9 can operate over the temperature range of 0 to 60 degrees C, and a version suitable for an extended industrial temperature range can be supplied upon request. In addition, these Intel processors have a minimum availability of five years, so F9 availability is assured in the future.

The F9 packs a significant number of peripherals on-board but still only requires one slot in a ComapctPCI chassis. Gigabit Ethernet and dual USB ports are available on the front panel. Standard memory resources include one GB of DRAM. Optional storage is available as a CompactFlash slot for ATA flash memory or a 1.8-in. IBM Microdrive hard disk. A flexible DVI-I graphics interface allows digital or analog flat panel displays or CRT monitors to be connected directly to the F9.

Additional input-output (I/O) resources can be configured by way of an expansion module plugged into the F9. Peripherals such as a PS/2 keyboard or mouse, another USB port, a serial interface, an AC'97 audio codec or a 2.5-in. hard disk can be accommodated. In applications where front-panel I/O can not be supported, a rear I/O transition module is available. This connects to the typical PC peripherals like a VGA graphics interface, Gigabit Ethernet, PS/2 peripherals or a USB port - all of which are available at the J2/P2 connectors on the F9.

The F9's BIOS has been adapted to meet the demands of embedded applications.
