Force Announces Low-Power, High-Performance PowerPC Processor SBC for Demanding Embedded Computing Applications

· PowerCore CPCI-690+ single board computer features PowerPC 750GX processor with frequency of 1GHz and large L2 Cache of 1MByte
· Marvell Discovery II(TM) GT-64620 system controller integrates five busses for concurrent access of processor and PCI peripherals to main memory
· SBC fully supports PICMG 2.16 specification for CompactPCI Packet-Switching Backplane switch-fabric architecture

FREMONT, Calif. (March 26, 2004) - Force Computers, a Solectron company and a leader in embedded computing, today announced the PowerCore(TM) CPCI-690+ PowerPC(TM) 750GX processor-based single board computer (SBC) with core frequency of 1GHz and large L2 Cache of 1MByte. Leveraging the Marvell Discovery II(TM) GT-64620 system controller with five decoupled busses for enabling concurrent access of the processor and PCI peripheral devices to main memory, the SBC provides low-power, high performance functionality necessary for virtually any demanding embedded computing requirement. Also, with full PICMG 2.16 support, the board is the perfect CompactPCI® Packet-Switching Backplane (cPSB) switch-fabric solution for third-generation (3G) wireless base stations, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switches, Internet Protocol (IP) Layer 3 routers, semiconductor test equipment and other industrial control and networking applications.

"Implemented with IBM's state-of-the-art PowerPC 750GX processor and the advanced Marvell Discovery II system controller, the CPCI-690+ offers one of the most robust, energy-efficient microprocessing engine solutions in embedded computing," said Abdelilah Aadil, Force product marketing manager. "In addition, with a very large L2 Cache of 1MByte, the SBC can run most applications almost entirely in fast cache memory without having to use slower Flash or SDRAM."

Alliances with leading companies offer early access to advanced technology
Implementing many best-of-breed technologies, PowerCore CPCI-690+ offers OEMs the earliest possible access to state-of-the-art embedded computing solutions - many before they have become widely adopted - resulting in a first-mover advantage that reduces time-to-market. By working closely with industry leaders like IBM and Marvell, Force can provide OEMs products fully leveraged to the latest technology. In addition to the 1GHz-capable PowerPC 750GX processor, 1MByte L2 Cache, GT-64620 system controller and full PICMG 2.16 cPSB support, PowerCore CPCI-690+ offers leading-edge features including:

· Up to 2GBytes onboard main memory (SDRAM)
· Up to 32MBytes User Flash memory
· Dual 64-bit/66MHz PMC slots
· Dual Fast Ethernet interfaces
· Dual serial interfaces
· 133MHz front-side bus
· Support for onboard data storage - with PMC/IDE cards
· PICMG 2.9 system management support
· PICMG 2.1 Full Hot Swap compliance
· Board support packages (BSPs) for Carrier Grade Linux(TM), VxWorks® and other standard operating systems

Range of technology building blocks for cost-effective, time-to-market products
In collaboration with other high-tech leaders, Force works to supply a range of technology building blocks - from VME modules and processor PCI mezzanine cards (PrPMCs) to AdvancedTCA and CompactPCI platforms. As the overall embedded computing leader (source: Venture Development Corp., May 2003), Force is committed to manufacturing boards as soon as possible so OEMs can develop products with their required application features - reducing time from concept to full functionality.

Availability and pricing
The PowerCore CPCI-690+ is now available through Force's Early Access Unit (EAU) program. Single-unit quantity pricing starts at $3,400. All monetary amounts are stated in U.S. dollars. For more information, call (800) 367-2399 or click here.
