Original Press Release:

Thales Computers Introduces New Series of Single/Dual PowerPC 750FX-Based PowerEngine7 SBCs from 733 MHz to 1GHz

Raleigh, NC, February 2003 - Thales Computers, a leader in providing PowerPC and Pentium-based VME computing solutions to OEMs and system integrators, has introduced the new PowerEngine7 series of single-board computers (SBCs) based on the latest IBM PowerPC® 750FX processor, delivering higher performance and lower power consumption than any other board on the market. Employing the PowerPC 750FX processor results in 50% more performance with 25% less power consumption than competing boards. This makes the PowerEngine7 ideal for demanding environments found in many military and severe environment applications.

The PowerEngine7 features single or dual PowerPC 750FX processors, operating at 733 MHz, providing extremely high performance at more than 1600 Dhrystone 2.1 MIPS, while drawing a very low 14 watts of power for the entire board.

The convection-cooled version of the PowerEngine7 is currently available. A rugged conduction-cooled version will be available later in the year.

Product Details
The new SBC includes up to 512 Mbytes of SDRAM memory and up to 128 Mbytes of Flash memory. The performance of PowerEngine7 is enhanced by the 133 MHz Avignon host bridge system controller which is optimized for use with the PowerPC processor, as well as the ALMA2e PCI/VME bus bridge, providing the capability for 2eSST transfers.

The PowerEngine7 series features all the I/O of full-fledged SBCs including twin PMC slots (one PCI 64 @ 66 MHz, one PCI 32 @ 33 MHz), two 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interfaces, as well as 4 asynchronous and 2 synchronous/asynchronous serial lines. A bridgeless PMC-Carrier is available to expand the PCI-64bit bus on the P0 and increase the number of slots to as many as four.

The convection-cooled PowerEngine7 with single/dual PowerPC 750FX processors is available at a starting price of $6133, with discounts for volume orders.
