GE Fanuc Embedded Systems Announces an AdvancedTCA® Single Board Computer with the New Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor LV 2.0 GHz

ATCA-7820 Combines the Benefits of Dual-Core with Dual-Processor Capabilities Providing Four High-Performance Cores on the Platform

Huntsville, Ala. - March 14, 2006 - GE Fanuc Embedded Systems today announced the ATCA-7820, an AdvancedTCA® Single Board Computer offering two Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® processors LV 2.0 GHz and up to 8 Gbyte DDR-2 400 SDRAM with ECC. The ATCA-7820 is fully compliant with the PICMG 3.0/3.1 specification, and combines an AMC.1 Type 8S expansion site as well as a PCI-X PMC expansion site to create a very powerful and I/O diverse platform. Also included on the ATCA-7820 are the Intel® E7520 Memory Controller Hub and Intel® 6300ESB I/O Controller Hub which provide high bandwidth for increased memory capacity, and high I/O throughput.

Lisa East, Product Marketing Director for GE Fanuc Embedded Systems said, "We have seen a significant performance per watt boost by integrating two of the new dual-core Intel® processors into the ATCA-7820 processor node board. GE Fanuc Embedded Systems can now deliver compelling processing capability supporting multiple application execution with up to four parallel threads, in a single ATCA slot. True parallel execution coupled with a very high bandwidth AMC site for additional processing capability, provides simultaneous computing power for infrastructure, application server, financial service, and high-performance computing applications."

"Our new multi-core processors combine high performance with innovative power management capabilities which helps customers implement new features in a wide range of communications applications, particularly in AdvancedTCA form-factor designs," said Rose Schooler, Director of Marketing, Intel Infrastructure Processor Division. "And the availability of standards-based products from our ecosystem, such as the GE Fanuc Embedded Systems ATCA-7820 single board computer, means customers can shorten their design time for next generation, carrier grade communications equipment.

Additional features of the ATCA-7820 include:
o Single AMC.1 Type 8S compliant site (PCI Express x8)
o Single PCI-X PMC site at 64-bit/66 MHz or on-board 2.5-inch IDE hard drive (up to 80GB)
o Single 10/100 Mbit Ethernet port out the front panel
o Dual USB 2.0 connections out the front panel
o "User" zone connections for dual RS-232, 32-bit/33 MHz PCI bus, dual USB 2.0, and mouse/keyboard support
o Support for an AMC.3-compliant serial ATA module using the AMC site

Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture, or AdvancedTCA is a series of industry standard specifications for the next generation of carrier grade communications equipment. As the largest specification effort in PICMG's history and with more than 100 companies participating, AdvancedTCA incorporates the latest trends in high speed interconnect technologies, next generation processors, and improved reliability, manageability and serviceability, resulting in a new blade (board) and chassis (shelf) form factor optimized for communications. AdvancedTCA provides standardized platform architecture for carrier-grade telecommunication applications, with support for carrier-grade features such as NEBS, ETSI, and 99.999% availability.
