Micro/sys Releases ARM Computer with Power Over Ethernet Plus Multiple Onboard Communication Interfaces

The new SBC4670 from Micro/sys (http://www.embeddedsys.com/subpages/products/sbc4670.shtml) is an ideal choice for remote terminals, protocol conversion or data logging in power-shy environments because it matches the fast, yet low-power PX270 ARM processor with an abundance of onboard communication formats: Power Over Ethernet, Socket Modem capable of GSM/GPRS, CDMA, or Bluetooth, on-board GPS, and/or CAN bus interface. Fitting on the 4.5” x 6.5” EPIC footprint, the board’s multimedia capabilities include support for an 800 x 600 color flat panel display, audio output, and debounced keypad input, making it an optimal choice for sophisticated point-of-sale terminals, kiosks, or graphical industrial control panels.

Montrose, CA -- November 22, 2006 -- The new SBC4670 from Micro/sys is an ideal choice for remote terminals, protocol conversion or data logging in power-shy environments because it matches the fast, yet low-power PX270 ARM processor with an abundance of onboard communication formats: Power Over Ethernet, Socket Modem capable of GSM/GPRS, CDMA, or Bluetooth, on-board GPS, and/or CAN bus interface. The industrial control and monitoring applications are served by 8 channels of 14-bit A/D with simultaneous reads, 8 channels of 14-bit D/A and 24 channels of digital I/O. The SBC4670 is rated for –40°C to +85°C operation.

The SBC4670’s powerful Intel PXA270 processor is based off of the ARM5 core, which implements a super-pipelined RISC architecture and adds multiple integrated peripherals. The PXA270, running up to 520 MHz, can dynamically shift velocity in response to performance or power consumption changes. On-chip cache, watchdog timer, an SDRAM controller, a CompactFlash interface, and a USB host controller are also onboard. For communication requirements, the SBC4670 features five serial ports. The 10/100BASE-T Ethernet controller can include the option of Power Over Ethernet which supplies the board with 15watts of power through the Ethernet connector. This eliminates the need for an external board power supply. Four of the serial ports have RS232 transceivers, while the remaining serial port is configured for RS485 communication.

With 128MB of SDRAM, and a 64MB resident flash array, feature-rich operating systems are an ideal match. The SBC4670 can boot Linux, Windows CE, and VxWorks® from its onboard flash. I/O expansion through the CompactFlash socket allows users to implement additional storage and I/O devices such as Wi-Fi cards. The SBC4670 has a 16-bit PC/104 bus interface which allows access to numerous off-the-shelf boards such as modems, analog I/O, or digital I/O. The SBC4670 stackthrough version is ideal for plugging into a custom OEM I/O card.

The basic SBC4670 starts at $595 in single quantity. An industrial temperature (-40°C to +85°C) version is also available starting at $650. Development kits begin at $950. Significant OEM discounts are available. Contact Technical Sales Dept., Micro/sys, Inc., 3730 Park Place, Montrose, CA, 91020, phone (818) 244-4600, FAX (818) 244-4246, URL: www.embeddedsys.com.
