DTI Introduces PICMG ePCI-X Compliant Single Board Computer & Chassis



New ePIX Generation products include ½-size SBC, backplane and Node chassis for embedded applications

RIDGELAND, MS - October 1, 2002 - Diversified Technology, Inc. announced today a revolutionary new line of PICMG 1.2 embedded PCI-X open standard products targeted at OEMs developing applied computing products for medical/laboratory, IC&A, instrumentation, gaming, transportation, defense/aerospace and "engine" markets. The initial ePIX Generation product family includes the ePX-Sx10 ½-length single board computer based on the Intel®815 chipset & low power Celeron(TM) and Pentium®III CPUs, the ePB-S5/04 5-slot, half-length backplane, and the ePN-705S half-length node chassis.

About the ePX-Sx10
The ePX-Sx10 SBC is fully compliant with the PCI 2.2, PCI 2.2 PCI-X Addendum, and PICMG 1.2 embedded PCI-X open standards, and features either a Pentium III or Celeron low power processor, the Intel 815E chipset, and up to 256MB PC100 SDRAM. The integrated 2D/3D AGP4X video controller is enhanced with a 4MB display cache and PanelLink transmitter with digital flat panel or CRT output; the integrated AC97 2.1 controller and CODEC provide excellent audio quality. 10 Base-T/100 Base-TX Ethernet and Ultra ATA100 EIDE controllers, two Universal Serial Bus (USB ports), four serial ports (two configurable as RS-232/422/455), one parallel port, and a floppy interface round out the basic board.

Operating in a stand-alone via onboard power connector, or with a standard ePCI-X passive backplane via PCI edge connectors, the ePX-Sx10 supports an optional CompactFlash solid-state disk and 32-bit/33MHz IEEE P1386.1 PMC card. It is designed to operate in elevated temperatures and meet international medical, measurement, control and laboratory safety and EMC standards. Other features include a serial ID tag, hardware monitor, programmable three-stage watchdog timer, battery-backed real time clock, and power fail circuit.

About the ePB-S5/04
The ePB-S5/04 half-length backplane is operable with compliant ePCI-X Single Board Computers, sometimes referred to as System Host Boards (SHB), and PCI expansion boards from various vendors. Providing one half-length CPU slot and four half-length 64-bit/66MHz PCI expansion slots, the design keeps interrupt binding identical to PICMG PCI/ISA to avoid any software (BIOS) changes when migrating from PICMG PCI/ISA to ePCI-X. 64-bit peer-to-peer transfer between expansion boards is enabled, even if the SHB PCI bus is limited to 32-bit.

About the ePN-705S
The ePN-705S is a 7.6" high by 7.7" wide by 11.2" deep rugged node chassis designed for space limited applied computing applications. Built upon the ePB-S5/04 5-slot PCI backplane, it includes a slim CD-ROM and floppy drive and an internal 3.5" hard drive bay. Front accessible USB ports, protected rear panel power on/off and reset switches, and easily accessible cards and devices make for a user friendly, easily configured and maintained platform.

Constructed of heavy steel, the ePN-705S node chassis is designed to operate in harsh environments where elevated temperatures, shock, vibration and EMI/RFI issues are of concern. A hold down bracket holds cards securely enabling a variety of mounting orientations including benchtop, wall mount, floor mount, or direct attachment to external machinery. Ample power to drive high performance SBCs and expansion cards is provided by the highly reliable 125W AC ATX universal power supply.

Pricing and Availability
All ePIX Generation products are covered by a two year warranty. OEM pricing for the ePX-Sx10, excluding memory, starts at $750 with a 300MHz ultra low power Celeron processor ranging through $925 with a 700MHz low power Pentium III processor. The ePB-S5/04 backplane is OEM priced at $150, the ePN-705S at $575. Samples are available in October, shipments begin in November.
