New Test System Release Further Advances GGSN and 3GPP Testing
Mobile Metrics announced the availability of Release 2.0 of its Torrent 5100 GGSN Test System (GTS). With numerous enhancements and new features, the Torrent 5100 pushes forward the state of the art in wireless traffic testing.
Dallas, TX August 15, 2006 -- Mobile Metrics announced the availability of Release 2.0 of its Torrent 5100 GGSN Test System (GTS). With numerous enhancements and new features, the Torrent 5100 pushes forward the state of the art in wireless traffic testing.
The Torrent 5100 is an advanced mobile traffic simulation system capable of exercising not only GGSNs, but other parts of a wireless data network as well, such as IMS platforms and application servers. Key features in the 2.0 release include simulation of Blackberry Always-On behavior, sophisticated virus injection capabilities, built-in comprehensive traffic test cases, and the ability to turn a PC into a mobile station.
"We've been very pleased with the feedback we've gotten from our users on the 1.x releases," said Asa Atallah, CEO of Mobile Metrics, Inc. "One thing that did surprise us, however, were some of the interesting ways in which they used the system - for example, in network security testing".
The original Torrent 5100 was released in 2005 and was the first Third Generation test system of its kind in the space. Third Generation test systems can be distinguished from Second Generation systems by their precise mobile simulation, programmable flexibility, high performance, and sensible, easy-to-use control.

Another unique feature is the PC-based mobile station. Users can connect a normal PC in the same subnet with the Torrent 5100 and run applications such as browsers and e-mail right through the test network. "This is a great way to quickly sanitize your network, visually examine network performance, and reproduce user actions in field issues," said Taylor.
The Torrent 5100 realistically simulates a wide variety of protocols such as HTTP, WAP, MMS, PTT, SIP, RTCP, RTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, TCP, UDP, ICMP, and DNS. The Challenge series of traffic test cases combines these applications with mobility aspects to perform subscriber capacity, bandwidth limit, soak, rate-based and parallel activity traffic testing.
Test results are accurately characterized with high-resolution histograms and over 450 hierarchically organized statistics. The 2.0 version includes sophisticated remote debugging capability and other diagnostics to make sure Mobile Metrics' personnel can respond quickly to any issues or questions regarding the product, the system under test, or the network environment.
