Lanner's Witness Simulation Software Supports Six Sigma

Support for Six Sigma programs, dramatic speed improvements key enhancements to WITNESS 2002 release

DETROIT, MI - Lanner Group, the business performance improvement specialist, today announced a new version of its industry-leading WITNESS simulation software that supports Six Sigma continuous improvement programs. WITNESS 2002, scheduled for availability in June, has also been enhanced to run customer simulations faster and link to on-line databases and control systems more easily.

The new Six Sigma tools within WITNESS 2002 are designed to support continuous improvement programs using Six Sigma, a data-driven methodology for eliminating defects in processes. The WITNESS Six Sigma tools provide analysis output for Six Sigma ratings, scrap and rework results and other statistics. WITNESS 2002 also links output directly to MINITAB(TM), the popular statistical analysis package used with Six Sigma. In addition, Lanner's optimization module, WITNESS OPTIMIZER, has been enhanced with a new Six Sigma algorithm to identify the best areas and options available for specific process or machine improvements. WITNESS MINER, Lanner's pattern matching and rule-finding engine, completes the Six Sigma toolkit by helping identify key patterns in project data.

"WITNESS is a particularly valuable tool for Six Sigma," said David Jones, Lanner marketing director. "A number of our customers have reported to us that WITNESS helps in Six Sigma experimentation by identifying key areas of focus and providing statistical measurements of proposed changes."

In addition to the Six Sigma tools, another key enhancement to WITNESS 2002 is its dramatic speed improvement. The performance of WITNESS 2002 has been improved to run customer simulations considerably faster. With representative Power and Free models, performance is five times faster than in previous WITNESS versions. Getting results faster and being able to run more experiments within the same timeframe enables better and more expedient decision-making.

A host of other user-driven enhancements have been included in WITNESS 2002. By gathering customer requirements via product forums and helpdesks, Lanner has improved flexibility and power for all simulation modelers. The new release includes several user interface improvements that make WITNESS easier to work with and simplifies database linking through a new database connectivity wizard.
