Las Vegas, NV. USTA Telecom Show. October 9, 2004--Artesyn Communication Products, a subsidiary of Artesyn Technologies (Nasdaq: ATSN), and a leading supplier of blade products for telecom OEMs, today announced that it will be demonstrating high-availability MTP3 software for its SS7 and SIGTRAN signaling products at the USTA Telecom Show. The new HA-MTP3 software, which will be available for Artesyn's SS7 signaling blades and SIGTRAN signaling gateways in early 2005, enhances availability by providing automatic hot swap, failure detection, failover, and failback for multi-blade PICMG 2.16 and ATCA systems.

Artesyn's HA-MTP3 solution utilizes a common set of HA services, which form a subset of the functions specified by the Service Availability Forum's Application Interface Specification. These services, implemented as middleware, lay the groundwork for a broader HA framework that is scaleable across multiple platforms, including PICMG 2.16 (aka CompactPCI Packet Switching Backplane, or PICMG 2.16) and AdvancedTCA.

Equally important, these service are scalable and portable, spanning both PICMG 2.16 and ATCA environments."

Artesyn's HA-MTP3 software automatically detects co-operating blades to form an HA system in an active-active configuration. It also utilizes HA Services functions to detect hot-swap requests, affect orderly shut down and restoration, detect failures in field replaceable units, manage seamless migration of services away from failed blades onto active blades, and manage failback when a blade returns to service. The software also reports alarms and provides notification of failure events.

Artesyn will demonstrate its HA-MTP3 software using a CompactPCI Switching Backplane (PICMG 2.16) signaling system equipped with four SpiderWare(TM) blades, each running an Artesyn signaling stack (MTP1, MTP2, and MTP3). Two of the blades will simulate individual Signaling End Points (SEP), which will provide a total of 64 links. The remaining two blades will simulate a single HA Signaling Transfer Point (STP). This configuration will enable Artesyn to demonstrate a continuous connection between the SEPs in the event of a failure in one of the STP blades.

Artesyn's signaling solutions make it easy to add SS7 and SIGTRAN signaling capability to network elements such as Signaling Transfer Points, Service Control Points, Signaling Gateways, and Base Station Controllers. Artesyn offer a complete PowerQUICC-based protocol stack for SS7 signaling, including MTP1, MTP2, and MTP3 (Message Transfer Parts), SCCP Signaling Connection Control Part, and ISUP (ISDN User Part). Artesyn also offers bundled signaling solutions for its Katana PICMG 2.16 blades. Artesyn's SS7 blade, known as SpiderWareSS7, provides 64 SS7 signaling channel over E1 and T1 connections. Artesyn's SIGTRAN gateway, known as SpiderWareSG, combines SS7 and SIGTRAN stacks on the blade, providing up to 64 signaling links (SS7 to SIGTRAN and SIGTRAN to SS7) over E1/T1 and IP connections.
