SFP+ Controller with Digital LDD Interface Supports all SFF-8472 Functionality

SFP+ controller for complete, efficient implementation of the SFF-8472 standard.

Maxim's latest SFP+ controller pairs with the MAX3798/MAX3799 to provide a low-cost solution for APC-loop and modulation-current control.

SUNNYVALE, CA - Maxim Integrated Products (NASDAQ: MXIM) introduces the DS1874, an SFP+ controller with a digital LDD interface. This device controls and monitors all functions for SFF, SFP, and SFP+ optical modules and fully supports the SFF-8472 standard. The combination of the DS1874 with a MAX3798 or MAX3799 laser driver/limiting amplifier provides a low-cost solution for APC loop control, modulation current control, and eye-safety functionality. This chipset eliminates the need for software development, thus reducing cost and speeding time to market.

The DS1874 monitors six analog channels: temperature, VCC, and MON1-MON4, which can be used to meet all monitoring requirements. Laser modulation is controlled by a temperature-driven LUT to compensate for tracking error. Two DAC outputs with 36-entry LUTs are provided for additional monitoring and control functionality.

The DS1874 utilizes 0.35µm technology to enable the implementation of all SFF-8472 functionality in its small, 5mm x 5mm, 28-pin TQFN package with exposed pad. This SFP+ controller is fully specified over the -40°C to +95°C temperature range. Pricing begins at $1.33 (10,000-up, FOB USA).
