Severn Trent De Nora Introduces Next Generation of the MARINER OMNIPURE® Series M55 Marine Sewage Treatment Systems at Asia Pacific Maritime Exhibition

FORT WASHINGTON, Pa. – The next generation of the MARINER OMNIPURE® Series M55 marine sewage treatment systems was introduced at Asia Pacific Maritime 2012, a marine trade show held biennially in Singapore. The latest generation of the MARINER OMNIPURE system is a more compact and lightweight unit well suited for workboats and smaller marine vessels with tight installation spaces.

The MARINER OMNIPURE system uses Severn Trent De Nora's proprietary electrolytic disinfection technology and offers a unique approach to wastewater treatment for smaller vessel, workboat and yacht applications. It features a bulkhead-mounted arrangement – a first of its kind – that provides safe and effective treatment of black and gray water, resulting in wastewater effluent quality well within the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) MEPC.159(55) requirements.

The MARINER OMNIPURE system has received the certificate of approval from the United States Coast Guard (USCG) in accordance with MEPC.159(55) effluent standards. Certification by the USCG involves testing rigorous environmental standards such as shock and vibration above and beyond IMO requirements. The system also has Bureau Veritas certification to MEPC.159(55) standards.

Vessels generate sewage that can contain contaminants that have a detrimental effect on water quality and the overall marine environment. The MARINER OMNIPURE system treats sewage from such marine applications and helps lessen the environmental impact of contaminants. The electrolytic process generates a powerful oxidant from seawater to effectively disinfect biological wastes. The MARINER OMNIPURE Series M55 systems can accommodate treatment capacities up to 75 persons for black water and up to 25 persons for black and gray water.

According to Dana Casbeer, marine and offshore product line manager for Severn Trent De Nora, "The MARINER OMNIPURE design is the result of a thorough analysis of the installation requirements aboard many vessels, and we are confident that the new generation unit will meet the needs of owners and operators of smaller vessels. The system is highly effective in meeting the stringent global effluent standards for sewage treatment plants while ensuring operator health and safety. With more than 20 units installed over the past year on barges, crew boats, yachts and even floating accommodation houses in the Chilean salmon farming industry, we are striving to meet the increasing demands of the marine industry by continually improving ourproducts."
