Websense Launches Websense® Web Protection Services(TM), Featuring ThreatWatcher(TM)

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 13 / / -- Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ:WBSN), a global leader in web security and web filtering productivity software, today launched Websense(R) Web Protection Services(TM), featuring SiteWatcher(TM), BrandWatcher(TM), and the company's new ThreatWatcher(TM) service. The Websense ThreatWatcher security service, available only for Websense Web Security Suite(TM) customers, prevents malicious attacks on their web servers before they happen by scanning for vulnerabilities and threats. Subscribers will receive regular analysis, reports on possible vulnerabilities and a summary of detected flaws on their web servers, such as a missing patch or an open port via their existing MyWebsense.com customer interface.

"Websense continues to position itself within the web security market by creating and delivering innovative technologies and services to protect their customers from the changing landscape of internet threats," said Brian Burke, security products research manager for IDC. "The Websense Web Protection Services provide protection and advanced detection techniques at three important layers of an organization's business and technology assets."

The internet is crawling with dangerous threats to an organization's network and security framework. For an organization, a compromised web server may open a window into their network infrastructure allowing hackers to corrupt the organization's website with malicious code or launch a denial-of-service attack. Only a layered security approach can be effective to thwart the advancement of these threats.

"Increasingly, the web is being used as an attack point to gain access to confidential information, host malicious code, and as a conduit into other systems within the corporate infrastructure," said Dan Hubbard, senior director of security and technology research for Websense, Inc. "Without specific knowledge as to how and why that server could be compromised, it can be very difficult to remediate the vulnerability. Websense ThreatWatcher investigates our subscribing customers' web servers from the outside-in, checking for any holes hackers could use for an attack, enabling our customers to address the vulnerability before an attack occurs."

The ThreatWatcher service leverages Websense Security Labs'(TM) expertise in discovering and protecting Websense customers against internet threats as they surface. Websense customers are now offered enhanced web security and vulnerability detection with Websense Web Protection Services. Consisting of three comprehensive security services, Websense Web Protection Services give customers a powerful combination of web security protection and detection tools offering a view of their web servers, external facing websites and protection of the organization's online brand.

"Websense's ThreatWatcher service identifies potential vulnerabilities and compliance issues which helps us prevent malicious attacks on our web servers before they happen," said Mike Bourque, technical services manager for Golden State Foods.

ThreatWatcher service helps customers prevent malicious attacks on their web servers and websites before they happen. Easily set up with just a few mouse clicks on the customer's MyWebsense.com web portal, the service allows customers to obtain regular vulnerability scans of their web server and informs them of known server vulnerabilities. Customers will receive automated reports directly to their customized web portal. Additionally, the service allows customers to monitor, report, and receive alerts on their web server status including notification of known vulnerabilities such as open ports and policy compliance issues.

SiteWatcher service alerts Websense customers when their websites have been infected with mobile malicious code (MMC). Hackers have advanced to the point of dropping MMC on websites that can infect visitor's PCs unknowingly when they simply visit a specific URL. SiteWatcher allows organizations to take immediate measures to prevent the spread of MMC to their customers, prospects, and partners.

BrandWatcher service alerts Websense customers when their websites or brands have been targeted in phishing or malicious keylogging attacks. These attacks can arrive in the form of email or fraudulent websites that imitate an organization's brand. BrandWatcher provides organizations with security intelligence, including attack details, and other security-related information.

To combat these advanced threats and to provide Websense customers with the best web security protection available, Websense Security Labs mines and analyzes over 75 million sites daily for malicious mobile code (MMC), bots, Trojan horses and new viruses. The findings are used to study their techniques, actions, and behaviors on an enterprise network system. Websense Security Labs is now helping customers become aware of vulnerabilities that can exist within their web servers.
