Supermicro Launches Xeon MP Quad Servers

1U & 4U/Tower Servers Optimized for Datacenters/Supercomputing Support Four Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® 7000 Sequence Processors

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 29 // -- Supermicro Computer, Inc., a leader in high-quality servers, chassis and motherboards, today announced the immediate availability of several new quad-processor server platforms based on dual-core Intel Xeon processor 7100 series (formerly codenamed Tulsa) and the Intel® E8501 chipset. Optimized for enterprise applications and supercomputing, these servers provide greater performance and responsiveness than previous-generation server platforms.

For enterprise computing, the ultra-dense 1U SuperServer 8014T-8/T leverages the X6QT8+/E+ serverboard to support up to 64GB of DDR2 memory via 16 DIMM slots. With three hot-swap SCSI/SATA drive bays and a 1000-watt high- efficiency (85% or higher) power supply, this platform not only doubles system performance and memory capacity, but also provides increased power efficiency and lower energy costs than previous generations.

"Ideal for enterprises and datacenters, our new multi-core Xeon MP SuperServers provide exceptional computing density and power efficiency," asserts Charles Liang, president and CEO of Supermicro. "These servers support both 32-bit and 64-bit applications with backward compatibility for single- core Xeon MP processors. Therefore, these quad-processor SuperServers not only provide scalability and unprecedented performance for demanding, multi- threaded applications, but also preserve existing datacenter investments."

"Supermicro offers users the flexibility of either an ultra-dense computing 1U MP server or a highly scalable and reliable 4U/tower MP server. Both platforms are optimized for the new Dual-Core Intel Xeon processor 7100 series," said Kirk Skaugen, vice president, Digital Enterprise Group, Intel Corporation. "These new servers provide outstanding scalable transaction performance to help datacenters become more efficient and responsive to business needs, while dramatically improving energy efficiency."

The SuperServer 8044T-8R packs redundant high-efficiency 1000-watt power supplies into a convertible 4U/Tower chassis that features cooling redundancy. For expansion scalability, the 8044T-8R supports four PCI-X and two PCI- Express slots for a total of six add-on cards. With up to 64GB of DDRII memory and ten hot-swap, dual-channel Ultra320 SCSI drive bays, this server supports four potent dual-core Xeon MP processors. With dual PCI-Express gigabit connectivity and IPMI 2.0 server management, the 8044T-8R is an excellent choice to power demanding enterprise applications such as databases, financial services and supply-chain management.
