Original Press Release:

Function Added to IBM i5/OS for Easier Query and View

Overview

Virtual Partition Manager

i5/OS supports creation and management of Linux(TM) partitions without the requirement for the Hardware Management Console (HMC)

Support for one i5/OS partition and up to four Linux partitions

Linux partitions support virtual I/O resources

Materialized query tables (MQTs)

DB2® UDB for iSeries(TM) is enhanced to enable the query optimizer to automatically recognize and take advantage of, where possible, aggregated data in the form of an MQT. The query rewrite function, built into DB2 UDB for iSeries, redirects the query to use the MQT, greatly reducing processing time.

INSTEAD OF triggers

Requested insert/update/delete operation against a view can enable a trigger program to execute in lieu of the database insert/update/delete operation.
