Overview

The IBM TotalStorage® N3700 is the first offering from the IBM TotalStorage N series of products. The N3700 is designed to:

Support entry-level and midrange customers requiring Network Attached Storage (NAS) or Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) functionality

Support Network File System (NFS), Common Internet File System (CIFS), and iSCSI protocols

Provide scalability up to a physical storage capacity of 16.8 TB

Provide high-availability options

The N3700 offering includes the Model A10, a single-node base unit, and the Model A20, a clustered, high-availability, dual-node base unit. Both models are designed to provide fast data access and simultaneous multiprotocol support with low maintenance requirements, and the Model A10 is upgradeable to the Model A20. Additional functionality, such as snapshot, compliance, mirroring, and business continuance capabilities, is available through optional licensed functions.

The N3700 comes fully configured with 14 disk drives in 72 GB, 144 GB, and 300 GB capacities. Physical capacity can be scaled to up to 16.8 TB with the attachment of up to three IBM TotalStorage N Series EXP600 expansion units. The EXP600 expansion unit also comes fully configured with 14 disk drives in 72 GB, 144 GB, or 300 GB capacity and is designed to be fully compatible with future IBM TotalStorage N series offerings.

Key prerequisites

The IBM TotalStorage N3700 requires NFS, CIFS, or iSCSI protocol function on the host N3700 servers.
