Sensors measure distance up to 30 m.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring minimal black white shift, DT and DL 60 sensors enable users to change out target material without affecting accuracy. Model DT 60 analog output sensor has 200 mm to 5.3 m range and ±10 mm accuracy, while DL 60 has 300 mm to 24 m range and ±15 mm accuracy. Accurate to ±3 mm, DS/DT 500 models measure distance up to 30 m without reflectors. They are protected by metal housing and feature built-in display, keypad, and Class 2, eye-safe laser diode.

SICK Introduces New Distance Measurement Sensors

Sensors set new standard in performance

DS and DT 500 offer lower-cost alternative to long-range distance measurement

Minneapolis, Minn. January 10, 2005 - SICK, one of the world's leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems and automatic identification products for industrial applications, today announced the DT 60, DL 60, DT 500 and DS 500 Distance Measurement sensors. These new sensors augment the existing line of distance measurement sensors from SICK and provide a lower-cost alternative.

These new distance measurement sensors are ideal for a variety of material handling, logistics and general manufacturing applications, including dimensioning on a conveyor, continuous detection of the diameter of paper or steel coils, automating small parts detection in a warehouse, anti-collision control for high speed gantries or cranes, and more.

Following is more information about these innovative new sensors.

· The DT 60 Distance Measurement sensor is a cost-effective analog output sensor with a range of 200 mm to 5.3 m and accuracy of +/- 10 mm. The DL 60 has a range of 300 mm to 24 m with accuracy of +/- 15 mm. Both DT and DL 60 sensors have the best performance in the mid-range distance sensor category, offering low black white shift. This feature allows the user to easily change out the target material without sacrificing accuracy, resulting in quicker setup time, less downtime and higher throughput. These sensors' high accuracy and repeatability help ensure better control over production.

· The DS/DT 500 fills an important gap, providing a lower-cost alternative to long-range distance measurement (up to 30 m) without a reflector. These sensors can detect and measure the distance of almost any object precisely and reliably. Easy to set up via the built-in display and keypad, and protected by a robust metal housing, the DS/DT 500 can handle demanding applications in the material handling and logistics industries.

With a Class 2, eye-safe laser diode producing a visible point of red light, it is easy to align the laser to the target. Even without a reflector, the DT/DS 500 is able to measure distances of more than 30 m with white target surfaces and an impressive 18 m with black targets. By measuring the time of flight of the light beam to and from the target, the DT/DS 500 is able to calculate the distance of the detected object with an accuracy of +/- 3 mm and a repeatability of 1 mm every 250 ms.
