Sensing Fibers are suitable for low profile applications.

Press Release Summary:

STEELSKIN(TM) plastic sensing fibers feature DURA-BEND(TM) multi-core construction and braided 304 grade stainless steel over-jacket for wear resistance. With 2.9 mm OD, fibers carry light through bend radius of 10.0 mm with no signal loss. Fibers are available in 3 and 6 ft standard lengths and operate in temperatures from 0-70°C. Fibers terminate with plastic ferrules to FP style amplifiers and can be used with fiber optic photoelectric sensors.

New Ruggedized Hi-Flex Sensing Fibers Feature Stainless Steel Jackets to Withstand Abrasion and Bending

Minneapolis, MN-January 10, 2003-Banner Engineering Corp. has announced new STEELSKIN(TM) plastic sensing fibers. Featuring field-proven DURA-BEND(TM) multi-core construction, these fibers have extraordinary flexing capability and carry light through extremely tight radius bends with no signal loss or fiber damage. The incorporation of a braided 304 grade stainless steel over-jacket provides wear-resistant fiber protection as well as aesthetically pleasing, high-tech looks.

Designed to endure the rigors of a harsh work environment, these fibers can withstand snagging, cutting, and abrasion far beyond standard plastic fibers. With a minimum bend radius of 10.0 mm and at just 2.9 mm O.D., STEELSKIN optical fibers are lighter and thinner than typical glass fibers. The narrow sheathing makes them well suited for low profile applications embedded in machinery or integrated into difficult-to-access locations.

These fibers are terminated with plastic ferrules for interfacing to Banner "FP" style amplifiers and can be used with most fiber optic photoelectric sensors, including the popular MINI-BEAM®, WORLD-BEAM(TM), DIN-rail mountable D10, D11 and D12 units, new miniature FI22, and others.

STEELSKIN optical fibers have a continuous operating temperature from 0° to 70° C and are available in one meter (3') and two meter (6') standard lengths with custom lengths available on request. A wide variety of sensing end tips are available in individual models (sold in pairs) or bifurcated models including; right-angle, threaded mount, probe and slot style. Pricing begins at $73.00.

Banner has the broadest, most readily-available line of sensing fibers in the world, offering a huge selection of standard fibers in virtually all shapes and sizes. Custom fibers, for unique applications, can be designed and built to the user's exact specifications quickly and easily.
