New Hoffman Cabinets Protect Vital Networking Equipment Through Zone 4 Seismic Activity

Anoka, MN-December 20, 2002-Hoffman has announced two new seismic cabinets designed to protect mission-critical LAN/WAN and voice/data equipment and servers in sites where the risks of seismic activity or heavy vibration can cause equipment failures or loss of performance. Each of the new cabinets is designed to safeguard at least 1,000 lbs (453.6 kg) of installed equipment and 100 lbs (45.4 kg) of top cable weight through Zone 4 (highest risk) seismic activity, based on NEBS-Telcordia GR-63-CORE standard vibration testing.

The two seven-foot (2134 mm) cabinet models each accommodate 19" equipment. One model can also accommodate 23" equipment. Both models are built to EIA 310-D standards and can easily adapt to many different applications using a variety of standard Hoffman rack accessories. The cabinets are equipped with flush-mounted hinged front and rear doors featuring flush 3-point keylock handles, lockable/removable side panels, a smoked-gray acrylic window in the front door, top panel with two capped cable entry ports, and a vented, heavy-gauge steel base designed to bolt to the floor with seismic-rated fasteners.

Hoffman seismic cabinets offer thermal management features, with lower rear louvers and fan-ready top vents designed to create a "chimney effect." This design effectively supplies a cool air flow from the floor level that dissipates internal heat and is drawn out through the top vents. Optional 6-inch fans can be added to further increase airflow. (Free Hoffman Thermal Management Sizing and Selection Software is available at www.hoffmanonline.com.)
