Secure Computing's Webwasher Anti-Malware Engine Ranked as Top Malware Detection Software by AV Test Labs

Web gateway security solution beats 26 vendors, detects 99.45 per cent of threats

January 24, 2008

Secure Computing Corporation (Nasdaq: SCUR), the leading enterprise gateway security provider, has announced that its Webwasher® Anti-Malware web gateway security engine posted the highest detection rate in a November 2007-released AV Test Labs study of 27 proprietary malware detection software. Webwasher was able to detect 99.45 per cent of more than a million malicious files on the Windows XP environment, marking the fourth time in 2007 that the engine gained a top position in an AV Test Labs round-up review.

The independent study exposed various malware solutions to malicious files including Trojans, backdoors and bots from a previous six-month period, during which the actual extent of malware threats and the differing levels of detection effectiveness of anti-malware products were analysed. Secure Computing's Webwasher was able to dominate the field with its almost 100 per cent detection rate, proving its ability to effectively protect users in a hazardous threat environment.

"Webwasher's fourth straight dominance of the anti-malware segment is remarkable given the rapid evolution of malicious software in just a few months. The fact that we were recognized by AV Test Labs, the most credible security testing lab in the world, validates the superiority of our proactive protection based on behavioral analyses in combating network threats. We are pleased that our pioneering efforts have once again led us to the top of our field," said Nimer Ghazal, Regional Sales Manager, Secure Computing.

Webwasher is the first and only reputation-based Web gateway security solution that shields enterprises from spyware, phishing, malware, data leakage and inappropriate Internet use. It uses Secure Computing's TrustedSource(TM) global reputation-based system and methodology, which assigns a reputation to message senders and Web universal resource locators, and domain and internet protocol addresses, in real-time, thus providing sub-zero-day protection. Webwasher also maintains the integrity of policy enforcement, regulatory compliance, and unimpeded application environment functionality

"Sophisticated targeted attacks aimed at monetary gain, have become a common occurrence in today's world," said Andreas Marx, Managing Director for AV Test Lab. "Proactive protection based on behavioral analysis is a requirement for responsible enterprises."

Secure Computing relies on pioneering research and analysis and extensive industry experience to maintain its lead in internet gateway security solutions. Among the critical components it has identified to prevent breaches in enterprise networks are proactive real-time reputation-based Web and messaging filtering for all domains; bi-directional filtering and application control at the gateway for all Web traffic; data leakage protection on all critical Web and messaging protocols; security-aware proxies and caches; defense layering with minimal number of proven and secured devices; and advanced management and audit reporting tools for Web and messaging protocols, services and solutions.
