Trelleborg Introduces Giant FlexiMold(TM) Seals in Infinite Dimensions

Premium Quality Seals Eliminate Expense and Time Investment of Mold Setup

Ft. Wayne, IN - April 30, 2007 - Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, a worldwide leading supplier of high-quality sealing and bearing systems, today introduces FlexiMold(TM), utilizing newly developed technology in the manufacture of high precision, large diameter O-Rings and other seals. FlexiMold(TM) giant seals are of superior quality to those fabricated as spliced seals or from extruded cord and demonstrate the full visual and dimensional integrity of a molded product. Without a dedicated tooling requirement, this flexible setup minimizes costs and lead-times.

The FlexiMold(TM) process eliminates the risks associated with spliced O-Rings, ensuring the tolerances and functional integrity of a molded seal.

Large O-Rings and seals are used across all process industries including Chemical and Hydrocarbon, Pharmaceutical, Food and Beverage, with the production of flat panel displays for the Electronics industry being a major application. The conventional method of producing large diameter O-Rings and seals is by splicing extruded cord. However, inherent in this method of fabrication is a weakness at the join, along with poor surface finish and difficulty in achieving tight tolerances. Alternatively, a dedicated tool is required with its associated high investment and long lead-time.

The FlexiMold(TM) process is recommended for O-Rings and other seal profiles over 500 mm/ 20 inches and can be produced in almost infinite diameters. Meeting ISO standards and allowing for 'zero defect' quality policy, these are among the best of Trelleborg's premium seal portfolio. FlexiMold(TM) giant O-Rings are available in a wide range of elastomers including Isolast® FFKM, Resifluor(TM) High Performance Fluoroelastomers, FKM, EPDM and HNB.
