Scissor Lifts feature extreme condition drive system.

Press Release Summary:

Rough terrain GS-68 RT series utilizes traction control drive system engineered to handle tough environments. Combiner divider valves divide and isolate hydraulic flow to each wheel, allowing each wheel to work independently of others. Drive system works in series mode for flat or level paths and parallel mode for traveling up hill. Lifts also feature hydraulic dynamic braking system in addition to spring-applied hydraulic release parking brake.

Genie's New GS-68 RT Drive System Delivers Ultimate Performance in Extreme Conditions

REDMOND, WASH (Nov. 21, 2005) - Genie Industries is proud to introduce an innovative new traction control drive system for its popular GS-68 RT series of rough terrain scissor lifts. Developed in response to customer requests for increased traction control, the new GS-68 RT drive system allows operators to take on tough environments with ease.

Improving traction control on Genie's line of GS-68 RT scissor lifts required application knowledge, customer input and innovative engineering. John Norton, Genie product manager, explains, "Our customers, especially those in the Northeast, face some pretty severe conditions. Depending on the season, they can be up to their ankles in mud, knee deep in snow or covered with ice. So when we set out to improve the traction on our 68-foot lifts, we knew we had to take it one wheel at a time."

To achieve a true 'traction control' drive system, Genie added combiner divider valves to divide and isolate hydraulic flow to each wheel. This allows each wheel to work independent of the others, transferring maximum power to the ground even when one or more wheels lose contact. With the new design, should one tire lose contact with the ground, the unit will maintain 75% of its power.

The new traction control drive system features exceptional gradeability, giving operators access to sites with 35% to 40% slope rating. Two drive modes provide ultimate control and maneuverability. "Operators can choose 'Series Mode' when they're on flat or level paths, driving at higher speeds and requiring less torque. The 'Parallel Mode' is ideal for traveling up hill at slower speeds with maximum torque," says Norton.

"Also featured is a new hydraulic dynamic braking system in addition to our standard spring-applied hydraulic release parking brake. The result is smoother control, particularly on rough terrain, less wear and tear and greater operator confidence," adds Norton.

As of September 26, 2005, all new GS-68 Rough Terrain Scissor Lifts are manufactured with the new drive system and available in both gas and diesel models.
